Police Scotland is currently investigating claims regarding the presence of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell at Balmoral Castle, the cherished Scottish estate of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The inquiries come as former Prince Andrew faces renewed scrutiny over his historical association with Epstein.

The police confirmed on October 30 that they have initiated “active inquiries” related to Balmoral Castle, with a spokesperson declaring that these investigations are in their “very early stage.” This announcement follows a report from the Scottish Daily Express, hinting at allegations that women were trafficked to the royal estate during Epstein and Maxwell’s visits. “We have received information and active inquiries are ongoing but these are at a very early stage,” the spokesperson added, emphasising the commitment to placing the needs of victims at the forefront of these investigations. However, they have refrained from disclosing any specific details about the inquiries or whether Andrew is directly under investigation.

Prince Andrew, aged 66, has persistently denied any misconduct linked to Epstein. Buckingham Palace has distanced itself from these allegations by stating it does not speak on behalf of Andrew and has chosen not to comment on ongoing police matters. This separation aligns with efforts to maintain the royal family’s integrity amid troubling allegations.
Balmoral Castle, situated in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, held significant affection for Queen Elizabeth II and served as her final residence before her passing in September 2022. The estate is now in the possession of her eldest son, King Charles III. The renewed examination into Andrew’s connections with Epstein and Maxwell unfolds against a backdrop of previously reported interactions involving the trio at the estate. Undated images have emerged, showcasing Epstein and Maxwell in a log cabin situated on Balmoral grounds, thereby intensifying public interest in the historical ties.
Reports from earlier this year highlighted concerns over a flight taken by Andrew and Maxwell, which allegedly landed at Edinburgh Airport in September 2006 aboard Epstein’s private jet. Police Scotland issued a call for information, noting the absence of any formal complaints or reports regarding the matter at that time. They expressed a desire to engage with anyone who might possess pertinent information.
Complications in the ongoing investigation have also arisen from recently released documents connected to Epstein by the U.S. Department of Justice. Among these documents was an email from an unidentified sender, referred to only as “A,” which appeared to originate from Balmoral. The email contained a casual inquiry into the whereabouts of “inappropriate friends” in Los Angeles, raising further alarm over the nature of relationships fostered at the royal estate.
In December 2021, Maxwell was convicted on five federal felony charges, which revolved around her role in exploiting underage girls in partnership with Epstein. The repercussions of these revelations have palpably affected Prince Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles and honours by King Charles exactly one year ago. This move was made in light of growing concerns over Andrew’s long-standing relationships with both Epstein and Maxwell.
The situation has evolved further with Andrew’s living arrangements being reassessed, forcing him to vacate Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park. He is now provided with accommodation at Marsh Farm, located on the expansive Sandringham estate, approximately 110 miles north of London.
On February 19, 2026, coinciding with Andrew’s 66th birthday, he was detained by Thames Valley Police under suspicions of misconduct in public office, reigniting discussions about his ties to Epstein. Despite this arrest, no formal charges have been brought against him. Moreover, on October 8, Andrew received legal affirmation that previous search warrants used in the investigation conducted upon his residences were found to be unlawful, a twist that complicates the ongoing scrutiny he faces.
As the inquiries continue, the public remains on high alert for updates regarding Prince Andrew, Epstein, and Maxwell, with the historic significance of Balmoral Castle spotlighted against the backdrop of these serious allegations. The investigation promises to delve further into the complexities surrounding the royal family and its connections to Epstein’s controversial legacy.
