The victims have been named as 22-month-old Kozzar J. Lotut, alongside his grandparents, 51-year-old Melissa E. Campbell and 67-year-old Gale F. Sanders. All three died from gunshot wounds, according to the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office, which released this information following an earlier announcement from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office that did not disclose names.

Initial reports indicate that at about 4 a.m. on the day in question, police were alerted by a hang-up call to 911, which made tracing the call’s origin challenging. The dispatchers struggled to reconnect with the caller, but during one attempt, they were met with a faint voice uttering what sounded like a plea for help.
As efforts intensified to locate the source of the call, deputies were able to determine that the phone belonged to an individual who had lent it out. Through a series of investigative steps, they traced the number back to the home in Gnadenhutten where the three victims were later found.
According to reports, a family member present at the residence assisted police upon their arrival. Unfortunately, they discovered all three individuals unresponsive inside the home. Local law enforcement suggested that the evidence currently points towards a murder-suicide scenario, acknowledging that a firearm was located next to one of the deceased. However, further details have not been made public.
Kozzar’s grandparents, both reported to have been deeply involved in his care, were noted for their commitment, particularly in managing his medical needs relative to disabilities he faced. This familial bond highlights the devastating impact of such incidents, particularly on vulnerable individuals.
While the investigation is still underway, the coroner’s office has indicated that definitive determinations regarding the causes and manners of death are pending autopsy results, which are being conducted at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
As the local community grapples with the shocking loss, residents have expressed their condolences. This tragic event underscores significant issues surrounding mental health, firearm access, and family dynamics—areas that resonate deeply within society.
As developments continue to unfold, officials remain committed to understanding the circumstances that led to this harrowing incident, offering support to the community as they process the ramifications of such a tragic event. For now, the investigation by law enforcement is focused on piecing together the events that transpired prior to the fatal discoveries within the home.
