As the festive season approaches, two familiar faces, Melissa Joan Hart and Adam DeVine, have joined forces for Macy’s 2026 holiday campaign. Hart takes on the role of the Gift Guide, assisting DeVine—who humorously admits to being a somewhat hopeless gift giver—as he navigates his holiday shopping list.

In a recent conversation with PEOPLE, the 42-year-old DeVine, known for his part in the “Pitch Perfect” franchise, playfully declared that he was “kind of the perfect casting choice” due to his struggles with finding suitable presents. “I’m really bad at giving gifts,” he confessed. “It’s always a last-minute freak-out like, ‘What? The holiday season’s upon us. What do we get people?’”

Macy’s, however, has been a reliable source for DeVine, who pointed out that the store employs staff trained specifically to help customers with their gift selections. “They have fantastic gifts at Macy’s—it’s really a one-stop shop,” he noted. Collaborating with Hart during the campaign has even offered him inspiration for his own gift-giving dilemmas, particularly for his wife, actress Chloe Bridges.
Reflecting on what would please the women in his life, DeVine remarked, “It turns out they just like to smell good and have nice bags.” This year, he is considering the sleek Coach Kisslock Leather Frame Handbag as a gift for Bridges, his mother, and mother-in-law, further emphasising the importance of thoughtful giving.
For Hart, aged 50, Macy’s holds a significant place in her family’s holiday traditions. She reminisced about childhood shopping trips, saying, “All those mall hangouts were always around Macy’s. Of course, during the holidays, it was where we went to shop for Mum and Dad and sisters. It just has been a one-stop shop and still is for me.”
In preparing for the upcoming gifting season, Hart shared that she recently purchased La Mer Creme de la Mer for her sister and Jean Paul Gaultier cologne as a graduation gift for her son.
Hart also revealed that one of her family’s cherished holiday traditions involves the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “You can’t kick off the season without the parade,” she asserted. For her family, decorating the house does not occur until after Santa’s float has passed. “That’s how my mum would write down all the lists,” she explained.
Looking ahead to this year’s celebrations, Hart expressed excitement about returning to family traditions with her husband, singer-songwriter Mark Wilkerson, and their three sons—Mason, 20, Braydon, 18, and Tucker, 14. “I was going to try to go away, just take a minute to regroup somewhere else where all the pressures weren’t on us,” she said. “But we’ve decided to just go back to our traditions. We’re going to be in our house in Lake Tahoe, which we love. That’s where my kids have spent almost every Christmas of their lives.”
The holiday season also brings with it a slew of beloved family recipes, including Hart’s grandmother’s French silk pie and Christmas cookie specialities. Despite their ages, she mentioned that her sons still enjoy wearing matching pyjamas, although the family Christmas card photo can occasionally be met with reluctance. “Now it’s the 14-year-old that’s giving me trouble,” she laughed, adding that her older sons have learned the importance of co-operation when the camera comes out.
Gift-giving is a passion for Hart, who described it as her ultimate love language. “I love nothing more than finding the right gift for someone. I just finished a movie last week and was giving out wrap gifts, finding the perfect presents for everyone,” she shared. During the Macy’s campaign, she was particularly excited by the array of fragrances and accessories on display, wishing she could have shopped right on the set.
DeVine shares a similar enthusiasm for the holiday season, looking forward to spending quality time with his wife and their two-year-old son, Beau. He jokingly admitted that he is not as keen on the tradition of matching pyjamas as Hart’s family. “We take some cute photos by the Christmas tree, sometimes in matching pyjamas. It depends on the pyjamas. I might decide to go ‘match-adjacent’ if it seems too silly,” he chuckled.
Both actors emphasised the importance of joyfully embracing holiday traditions while finding the perfect gifts, proving that the festive season can be both delightful and rewarding.
