Business moguls Michael and Susan Dell have recently made headlines following their significant pledge of $6.25 billion towards the establishment of investment and retirement accounts aimed at American children under the age of 18. This ambitious plan, termed “Trump Accounts”, was discussed during the Dells’ meeting with former President Donald Trump at the White House, where they provided an update on their generous commitment.
In a joint statement made by the Dells on 7 October, it was revealed that as of that date, 10 million accounts had already been funded, with the expectation that the total would reach 25 million by the end of the week. Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell Technologies, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m very pleased to let you know today that we have funded 10 million of those accounts as of this morning. By the end of this week, we will have funded 25 million of those accounts.”

The accounts are designed to provide an initial investment of $250, which Michael Dell urged parents to claim for their children. He emphasised the importance of participation, saying, “If you have a child under 18 with a social security number you should claim your account.” His remarks were met with visible support from Susan Dell, who stood by his side, nodding in agreement.

Following Michael’s address, Susan Dell took the opportunity to share her emotional connection to the project. She mentioned that both she and her husband had received numerous heartfelt letters from parents, children, and grandparents expressing their gratitude. “Children have told us that they want to become entrepreneurs… nurses, doctors, engineers. They want to build their own companies someday,” she recounted, highlighting the aspirations that the initiative is intended to inspire.
Susan further delved into the broader significance of the accounts, stating, “It’s not just the money that matters… Knowing someone believes in you and your future matters just as much.” This emphasis on belief and investment in the younger generation underpins the Dells’ philanthropic vision.
As the dialogue unfolded in the Oval Office, President Trump jovially inquired if Susan was contemplating a political career. “What a good job… Michael, is she thinking about running for office?” he quipped, which elicited laughter from those present. Michael Dell chuckled in response, firmly dismissing the notion, while Trump quickly proclaimed, “I’ll endorse her immediately. She has my complete and total endorsement.”
This is not the first time the Dells have visited the White House concerning this initiative. Their commitment to the Trump Accounts was initially announced in December 2025 as part of Trump’s broader “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” The initiative aims to provide substantial financial benefits to children, with contributions capped at $5,000 annually. When children turn 18, the funds will be available for withdrawal under standard IRA regulations. The White House has asserted that if the accounts are fully funded and left untouched, they could grow to nearly $1.9 million by the time they reach age 28.
The Dells’ philanthropic efforts have captured public attention, with observers noting that their $6.25 billion contribution marks one of the largest private donations aimed at benefiting American children. According to Forbes, Michael Dell’s net worth is estimated to be over $280 billion, making his family a significant player in the sphere of philanthropy.
In previous comments made to the New York Times, Susan Dell revealed that over the past 26 years, the Dells have given a total of $3 billion to various charitable endeavours. The substantial gift towards Trump Accounts is expected to elevate the couple into the ranks of the nation’s top philanthropists, showcasing their commitment to enhancing the lives of children across the United States.
As the week progresses, anticipation builds about the finalisation of accounts for millions of children, promising a brighter financial future for the next generation, while also prompting spirited discussions about the role of philanthropy in public policy and governance.
