Rebecca Minkoff, a former star of the reality TV show “The Real Housewives of New York City,” and her husband Gavin Bellour took a unique approach to their prenuptial agreement. The couple, who got married in 2009, decided to write their ‘prenup’ on a napkin. Minkoff shared this interesting detail during a recent episode of the Trading Secrets podcast.

During the podcast, Minkoff mentioned that before their wedding, she and Bellour both agreed that they needed a prenuptial agreement. Despite not having significant assets at that point, Minkoff felt confident that both she and Bellour had promising futures. This led them to casually draft their agreement on a simple napkin with the message, “What’s mine is mine, what’s yours is yours.”

In addition to their napkin-written prenup, Minkoff shared that they also have a special clause in their will. This clause is designed to address a scenario where either of them passes away, or if one of them enters into a new relationship with someone else. Minkoff elaborated that in such a situation, all her assets would immediately go into a trust for their children, ensuring that a new partner does not benefit financially.

Despite the informal beginning of their prenuptial agreement, Minkoff clarified that the clause concerning their will is a formal and legally binding contract. She emphasised that even if Bellour were to remarry, the assets would still be safeguarded for their children, demonstrating a practical and forward-thinking approach to their financial planning.
Minkoff revealed that the idea for this clause came from her mother, who highlighted the importance of considering unforeseen circumstances that could arise in the future. This proactive approach was seen as a strategic move to protect their assets and secure the financial stability of their children in any eventuality.
Reflecting on their journey from starting with “nothing” to achieving success, Minkoff and Bellour have seen their fortunes change. Minkoff, a renowned fashion designer, sold her high-end brand for a substantial sum, while Bellour’s career as a producer and director has also flourished. Their family has grown as well, with the addition of their fourth child, Leonardo, in early 2023.
The couple’s story serves as a testimony to careful planning and adapting to life’s changes. By laying out clear agreements and provisions, Minkoff and Bellour have navigated their personal and professional lives with foresight and resilience. Their approach to financial matters reflects a deep commitment to their family’s well-being and future stability.
In a world where relationships and financial arrangements can sometimes become complex, the simplicity and clarity of Minkoff and Bellour’s prenuptial agreement stand out. It showcases the importance of open communication, mutual understanding, and proactive planning in building a secure and thriving family life.
