As the revival of the beloved medical comedy *Scrubs* approaches its second season, members of the cast, including Zach Braff and Donald Faison, have acknowledged the heightened expectations surrounding the show’s new episodes. Speaking exclusively to *People* magazine, Braff remarked on the significant pressure weighing on the cast to exceed the success of the first season.

Reflecting on the difference between filming the original series, which debuted in 2001, and the current revival, Braff pointed out that the responsibility for the show’s success now rests more heavily on their shoulders. The actor stated, “It used to be we had this sugar daddy named Bill Lawrence, and we just showed up, and this brilliant showrunner told us what to say.” He added, “Now, we have to be more involved in making it work.”
Braff, who starred as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian, expressed the collective commitment his castmates share in ensuring each scene meets a high standard. He underscored the importance of team dynamics and preparation, revealing that they now find themselves in leadership roles, albeit with support from showrunner Aseem Batra. “The pressure is way more on us now than it used to be,” Braff admitted, highlighting a shift in the production environment.
Faison, who portrays Dr. Christopher Turk and has been Braff’s friend for over 25 years, echoed his sentiment about the increased stakes. “Season 1 was great. Season 2 has to be better,” he stated, underlining the desire to give fans something even more outstanding. Drawing on cinematic parallels, he likened their ambitions to the progression from *Star Wars* to *The Empire Strikes Back*, expressing a need to elevate the content significantly in the upcoming season.
Originally airing for nine seasons from 2001 to 2010, *Scrubs* made a return to television with its revival in 2025, bringing back several original characters. This includes fan-favourites like Dr. Elliot Reid, played by Sarah Chalke, and Dr. Perry Cox, portrayed by John C. McGinley. The revived series has also introduced new cast members, such as Ava Bunn and Vanessa Bayer, who are expected to contribute fresh dynamics to the storyline.
Chalke shared her reflections on reuniting with co-stars after such a long hiatus. She commented on the uniqueness of working alongside individuals she has known for two-and-a-half decades, stating, “We had such a good experience in the first round; it was eight years, and to get to do it again with your friends is so lucky.” Her perspective highlights the depth of camaraderie and trust that exists within the group, enhancing their creative output.
Moreover, Chalke believes that the experience they’ve gained over the years allows them to take more risks in their comedic performances. “It feels super lucky just as friends, but also to do a show, a comedy where you’re doing it with your friends,” she explained. Chalke emphasised that having a comfortable environment has allowed them to explore unconventional ideas, making room for spontaneity in humour.
In this promising season, the cast aims not only to entertain but also to connect with audiences who have grown attached to the show over the years. With high hopes for Season 2, they are determined to deliver a production that reflects their growth both personally and professionally.
Currently, *Scrubs* Season 2 is airing on ABC and is available for streaming on Hulu the following day. Fans of the show can anticipate a renewed experience infused with nostalgia and innovation, as cast members pour their efforts into crafting a memorable chapter in the *Scrubs* legacy. As the release of each episode approaches, all eyes will be on this dynamic ensemble to see if they can meet the formidable expectations set before them.
