A recent search and rescue mission in Chaffee County, Colorado, has demonstrated the remarkable skills of an exceptional volunteer team, including a remarkable canine companion. The incident unfolded on Saturday, September 26, when authorities were alerted about three children who had gone missing from their family’s campsite near the Midland Bike Trail, situated east of Buena Vista.

The trio, all under 10 years old, had wandered away from their campsite while their family, visiting from Denver, enjoyed their outdoor excursion. It was approximately 9 a.m. when the family realised that the children were no longer in sight. After an unsettling two-hour search in the vicinity yielded no results, the distressed family decided to contact law enforcement for assistance.
In response to the frantic call for help, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office swiftly mobilised several resources. Drones and a helicopter were deployed to survey the area from above, while ground search teams began a systematic foot patrol. Among these teams, one unique and vital member stood out: Canine Arch, a specially trained search and rescue dog.

I can only imagine the panic they must have felt.” By approximately 2 p.m., the children were successfully located roughly 1.5 miles from their family’s campsite.
