Three adults from Marietta, Georgia, are facing a staggering total of 94 felony charges connected to the horrific living conditions of 15 children, aged between 1 and 17, who were reportedly found in their care. The trio, identified as Ashley Jackson, 40, Derrick Jackson, 41, and Briana Reynolds, 36, have been accused of child cruelty following an investigation that revealed alarming circumstances in a cramped two-bedroom apartment.

Authorities from the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office made the arrests on Thursday, 24 September, after being alerted by staff from the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS). They requested Marietta police conduct a welfare check on two specific children residing in the apartment complex located at 1955 Bells Ferry Road. When the police arrived, they discovered that no adults were present in the apartment, yet 15 children emerged from inside.
As the officers were securing a search warrant to investigate the home further, the children were relocated to safer environments by the DFCS. Just hours later, the three adults returned to the apartment, claiming to be the biological parents of the children. Subsequently, detectives executed the search warrant and uncovered appalling living conditions.
Reports indicate that the apartment was severely overcrowded, with only nine beds available for a large number of residents, including the three adults. The environment was described as “deplorable,” featuring a blanket covered in mould and an alarming lack of food. Authorities reported that the only provisions they found were limited to a jar of peanut butter and a box of pasta. Additionally, there was a notable absence of basic hygiene items, such as toilet paper.
One neighbour, Randi Hunter, recounted her observations of the children. She noted that they often kept to themselves, emerging from the apartment primarily in the early hours of the morning. “They never talked… they never made eye contact,” she told reporters. Although she did not perceive the children to be malnourished, their lack of social interaction struck her as unusual. “They just walked straight toward the car, which was pretty odd,” she remarked.
Each of the three adults faces 30 counts of child cruelty according to arrest records. Furthermore, Derrick Jackson faces additional charges related to contraband possession after authorities alleged he attempted to smuggle marijuana into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, hidden internally.
The three individuals are presently being held without bond at the detention facility. It remains unclear if they have secured legal counsel to represent them in this serious matter.
