Anna, now 32, recounts the moment she first met Cooper, 33, at a high school track meet in Washington state. The couple were both in their senior year at the time, and their initial interaction occurred when Anna handed Cooper a ribbon after he finished last in the race. Despite the circumstances, Anna felt an overwhelming emotional connection, leading her to question whether such feelings were genuinely possible at the age of 17. She muses, “I think I had an insecurity about that, like, ‘Okay, this can’t be a real thing.’”
Reflecting on that day, Anna describes how Cooper felt an immediate bond. “It was one of those things where he knew. He just knew,” she shares. Cooper was so sure of his feelings that he told his family he had met the girl he intended to marry. They began dating over the summer, spending nearly every day together, before deciding to take a brief hiatus when they enrolled in different colleges.
While attending the University of Arkansas, Anna felt that separation but was drawn back to Cooper when she transferred to Eastern Washington University, which he was already attending. “Once we officially got back together, it was like, ‘Okay, this is forever,’” Anna remarks, highlighting their determination to make their relationship work.
Two years after rekindling their romance, the couple tied the knot on June 20, 2015. At the age of 21, Anna felt that their decision to marry was the right one for them. “It was just what we wanted to do… How we met and who we are as people, we just knew this is forever. So why would we wait?” she reflects.
Despite receiving outside opinions on marrying young, Anna expresses that their collegiate marriage has been a unique and cherished experience. With three sons—June, 8, Cypress, 5, and Solas, who is 3—Anna shares a perspective that resonates with many young couples: “I got to do everything alongside my best friend… I know it’s not everybody’s path, but we still did everything together.”
Cooper was drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams, where he played for eight seasons and celebrated his first Super Bowl victory in February 2022. Anna notes that the two years they spent together before the spotlight of the NFL significantly influenced their relationship and coping strategies. “Our foundation was so pivotal in who we have been able to become within the NFL,” she explains.
Their time in a small college apartment, free from the distractions that fame can bring, has helped Anna and Cooper thrive as a couple amid the pressures of the professional sports world. “Those years are super special to me. I’m so thankful to have had them,” she adds.
Now, as Cooper enters his new chapter with the Seattle Seahawks after signing a three-year contract in March 2025 and winning another Super Bowl title in February, Anna values their early life experiences even more. She emphasises the importance of having a supportive partner in such a high-stakes environment, stating, “Being able to lean on each other and cling to each other was just such a blessing.”
