Sara Waisglass, renowned for her role in the Netflix series *Ginny & Georgia*, has recently taken the spotlight in a new campaign for e.l.f. Cosmetics. The actress, aged 28, stars in the brand’s humorous and horror-inspired “Unglammy Valley” advertisement, which promotes their Soft Glam Satin Foundation, retailing at just £8.

The campaign cleverly plays on the concept of “the uncanny valley,” showcasing the often comedic mishaps that occur when individuals attempt to find their ideal foundation shade. It reflects a universal truth for makeup enthusiasts: almost everyone has endured a foundation blunder. Waisglass herself is no exception, as she shared a particularly unfortunate experience during a celebratory gathering for the filming of the first season of her show.
“I remember attending a fun party where professional photographs were taken, and I made the mistake of choosing a foundation that was eight shades too light for me,” Waisglass recalls. “In those pictures, the flash made my face look incredibly pale, to the point of embarrassment. It was truly heinous.” Since that incident, she has incorporated e.l.f.’s Soft Glam Satin Foundation into her beauty routine and now appreciates how easy it is to achieve a flawless complexion.

“I can get ready in ten minutes flat, which is such a bonus for my lifestyle,” Waisglass notes. She describes herself as enjoying a low-key approach to her makeup on her days off, preferring a more minimalistic look. While working on set, however, she often has no say in her makeup choices, which tend to be heavier for camera work. “They know how to prepare makeup that looks good on film, but I prefer the no-makeup makeup style when I’m not filming,” she explains.
The “Unglammy Valley” campaign features Waisglass navigating through a series of amusing yet frightening foundation challenges, ranging from overly orange shades to uneven and clumpy textures. The blend of horror and humour resonates with Waisglass, who appreciates whimsical and playful approaches to branding. “When I was approached with this concept, it felt completely natural for me to join in. Not only is the product fantastic, but I also loved the quirky idea behind it. Everyone involved with the campaign remarked how perfect this was for me,” she reflects.

Interestingly, Waisglass admits that horror is not a genre she typically gravitates towards. “Often, I panic when I see horror auditions pop up in my inbox because my least favourite thing to do on screen is scream,” she confesses. “In real life, people don’t run away screaming, and it’s so exaggerated.” However, she found this particular campaign refreshing, as it allowed her to engage with the genre in a light-hearted way.
“Working on this project was incredibly fun because it leaned into the camp aspect of horror without taking itself too seriously,” Waisglass recalls. This experience might even have persuaded her to consider future roles in the horror genre. “I discovered it could be a light-hearted experience, which has made me think that maybe horror could be a genre I’d explore if the right opportunity came along,” she muses.
When not busy with her latest project, Waisglass is keenly focused on the forthcoming fourth season of *Ginny & Georgia*, anticipated to launch in 2027. “I’m really excited about this new season. It promises to be engaging and richly detailed, which is something I truly enjoy,” she shares.
In addition to her acting career, Waisglass has aspirations of becoming a writer. She hopes that with “a bit of luck and support,” one of her scripts might be produced. “Exploring a new facet of the industry really excites me,” she says. As a passionate film buff, she finds joy in storytelling and looks forward to the potential of translating her ideas onto the screen.
As Waisglass continues to navigate her career in the entertainment industry, her recent collaboration with e.l.f. Cosmetics signals a playful departure into new creative avenues, while still keeping her roots firmly planted in her acting journey.
