The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a hit-and-run at the intersection of Northwest 117th Street and Northwest 7th Avenue on Wednesday, 9 September, at approximately 8:40 PM. According to initial investigations, an unidentified driver made a left turn onto Northwest 117th Street and collided with the two siblings.

Emergency services arrived promptly, finding the children lying in the street. Both were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where Peyton unfortunately succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter. Family members, deeply affected by the loss, have described Peyton as a vibrant and spirited child. Speaking to local news outlets, their aunt, Patrice, fondly remembered her niece, stating that Peyton was a cheerleader whose infectious enthusiasm made her beloved by all.
Brent, on the other hand, underwent emergency surgery and is now on the path to recovery, as reported by their family. The bond between the siblings was described as inseparable, with relatives highlighting how they were always together, sharing joys and adventures.
In the wake of this tragic event, a makeshift memorial has sprung up at the site of the collision. The area has been adorned with candles, balloons, and heartfelt tributes, marking the spot where young Peyton lost her life. Family and community members are now calling on the driver responsible, and any witnesses, to come forward with information that could lead to justice for the siblings.
Authorities have released a description of the car believed to be involved in the incident, thought to be a silver or grey 2009-2012 Nissan Versa. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office urged anyone with information about the vehicle or the event to get in touch. “We understand the anguish involved in this situation. Our community is urged to assist by checking any surveillance footage from the vicinity,” stated a spokesperson for the MDSO.
