A former teacher from Ohio is facing charges after authorities discovered a missing 16-year-old girl residing in his home for several months. Jobe Binkley, 48, was arrested following an investigation that traced the teen back to his Springfield residence. The police revealed that they had been searching for the girl since she was reported missing on December 2, 2025, when she fled from a transitional living programme.

According to court documents obtained by local media, Binkley has been charged with interference with custody, which is categorised as a first-degree misdemeanor. The charge stems from allegations that he knowingly allowed the girl to remain in his home, fully aware that she had been classified as a missing person. Binkley has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently free on bail pending trial, with a pre-trial hearing set for September 30.
The investigation took a significant turn on August 21, when an officer from the U.S. Marshals Service visited Binkley’s home. In a recent statement, the Springfield City School District clarified that they were not informed of any allegations concerning the missing teenager until Binkley was no longer employed with them. Local residents have expressed shock and concern following the revelation of the girl having stayed at Binkley’s home. Danielle Flint, a neighbour living close by, noted that there had been whispers in the community regarding the girl potentially living with Binkley. She shared her distress over the lengthy absence of the girl and voiced her empathy towards the family, questioning the emotional toll of not knowing the teen’s wellbeing for such an extended period.
“I’ve tried to peek around here and see if I could catch her in the back or perhaps out of the house at night, but I never spotted her,” Flint recounted. “For nine months, to not know if your child is dead or alive, or if they’re okay… I can’t even begin to imagine what that mother has been going through,” she added.
As the case unfolds, many remain on edge, eager for more information regarding the circumstances that allowed the girl to remain hidden for so long and the implications for Binkley.
