At Least 44 Injured, Including Teen Airlifted to Hospital, After Train Derails in Suspected Malicious Act

Louis described the scene as alarming; windows shattered and debris, including stones from the track, filled the carriage, creating a distressing environment for all involved.

In the aftermath of the incident, uninjured passengers were relocated to a hall provided by the mayor of Cléon. This evacuation aimed to ensure their safety while emergency responders managed the situation. By midday on Saturday, Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot reported that 21 of the injured had been discharged from the hospital, with others expected to follow soon.

The Rouen public prosecutor, Sébastien Gallois, confirmed that a criminal investigation is underway, focusing on the suspicious circumstances surrounding the derailment. According to preliminary findings, investigators suspect the presence of a piece of rail on the tracks could have contributed to the accident.
