The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Jonathan Samuel Meléndez Ochoa, a composer and member of the indie rock band Camilo Séptimo, his wife Ana Paula, who was four months pregnant, and their three-year-old daughter, Sofía. A 21-year-old woman, reported to be the family’s nanny and named Aleida Romero Victorio, was also among the deceased. The family’s pet dog was found dead at the scene, adding an additional layer of heartbreak to an already devastating situation.

According to the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office, two of the victims were found bound, and all four had sustained gunshot wounds. Reports indicate that the two adults and their daughter suffered fatal injuries, with shots to the head and back. In a glimmer of hope amid the tragedy, a six-year-old boy was discovered alive and unharmed in the residence.

Authorities are currently investigating the timeline of the crime, which is believed to have occurred between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on the same day. Within a few hours of the murders, two suspects, identified as Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N,” were arrested. The arrests were facilitated by the fact that one of the suspects had a business relationship with Meléndez, allowing him to gain access to the property.
Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the Government of Mexico, stated that the investigation is ongoing and praised the quick resolution, noting that the suspects were apprehended in less than 12 hours. Both men are now in custody as investigators continue to piece together the events leading to the tragic incident.
In the wake of the incident, Meléndez’s band, Camilo Séptimo, expressed their devastation through social media. They paid tribute to him, stating, “With deep sorrow we say goodbye to our dear brother, Jonathan Samuel Meléndez Ochoa. To his wife, Ana Paula, and his daughter, Sofía. They will live forever in our hearts.” The band also reflected on Meléndez’s music and the impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him.
Local media outlets have been reporting extensively on the case, with numerous sources confirming the identities of the victims, including CNN and Billboard. The family’s devastating loss has resonated deeply within both the local community and the wider music scene.
In recognising the severity of the murders, Camilo Séptimo emphasized their appreciation for the efforts of the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office, expressing gratitude for their work in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the case. In their tribute, they expressed hope and longing for a resolution, stating that the memories of their fallen friends would remain cherished.
As the investigation continues, the local community mourns the tragic loss of four lives, highlighting ongoing issues of safety and violence. The suspected motive behind the heinous act remains unclear, but the quick arrests have opened a path towards justice for the victims’ families.
The State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office has been approached for further information regarding the case, as the community awaits answers in the wake of this heartbreaking event.
