A worker at Frankfurt Airport has tragically passed away from malaria, a disease believed to have been contracted from a mosquito that arrived via an aircraft. This unfortunate incident occurred in the backdrop of six confirmed malaria cases, linked to the airport, that had come to light in recent weeks. Fraport, the managing company of Frankfurt Airport, confirmed the death and it has raised significant concern among health authorities.

Reports indicate that the deceased was a member of staff at Fraport. Local media, including Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, suggest that the worker contracted malaria from a mosquito that was brought into Germany as a stowaway on an international flight. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Germany’s principal agency for disease prevention and control, the infections among airport employees are believed to have occurred between July 4 and July 6.
Fraport expressed its condolences following the shocking news. A spokesperson stated, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, and our thoughts are with the employee’s family and friends.” The spokesperson also confirmed that the other affected workers are currently receiving medical treatment.

Health authorities have been working closely with Fraport to manage the situation. The airport’s management has assured that there is no evidence suggesting human-to-human transmission of the disease. Moreover, Fraport has been proactive in advising all employees to monitor their health closely.
