On a day filled with celebration at Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York, Jalen Brunson and his mother, Sandra, hosted nearly 900 guests for their annual Second Round Foundation charity golf classic. This year marked a significant milestone for the Brunson family, particularly following the Knicks’ triumph in the NBA championship, which they secured earlier in the summer. Reflecting on the occasion, Sandra Brunson expressed her excitement about the growth and support of their foundation over the past four years. “I wanted it to be more of a party this year,” she shared, acknowledging it was partly due to her own birthday celebrations just two days prior.

Despite the Knicks’ championship win, Sandra was keen to emphasise that the evolution of the Second Round Foundation was already a plan in motion prior to the finals. “I think people will think, wow, okay, they won a championship, so they’re going all out this year. No. This was kind of written in stone from last year when we debriefed, and we just wanted to keep growing it,” she explained.

Since its inception in 2022, the Second Round Foundation has made substantial strides. The inaugural charity event attracted approximately 150 attendees, but this year’s gathering saw a significant increase in participation, a growth Sandra attributes to heightened awareness following the Knicks’ successful playoff run. “It’s grown with so many people, and that’s because of the awareness since the Finals run,” she noted.

This year’s charity classic introduced a new feature: the Change Makers Roundtable & Golf Clinic, which focused on promoting dialogue among influential women across various industries, enhancing the foundation’s mission in innovative ways. Sandra remarked, “Our co-founder is the MVP of the Finals, so we’ll celebrate that as well. But there’s a lot to celebrate this year.”

The atmosphere at the golf classic was electric, especially with a special performance by rapper Fat Joe, an ardent Knicks supporter. The presence of Knicks president Leon Rose and actor Hank Azaria further elevated the occasion, reinforcing the sense of community and support within the realm of basketball and philanthropy.

“It’s a family affair. I couldn’t do it without his sister. And I almost couldn’t do it without my husband, his father, because I understand the basketball side of things much more and am able to translate that to other people that support us,” she stated, reflecting on the complexities of managing the foundation while balancing family dynamics.
