An 11-year-old boy from Ontario has turned an ordinary chore into a burgeoning enterprise. Ashton Meyer, a resident of York Region, launched a trash bin cleaning service in May, motivated by a desire to earn some extra money. Since its inception, his business has captured nationwide attention and gained a remarkable following of over 100,000 on Instagram.

Ashton’s father, Jonathan Meyer, played an integral role in the creation of the business plan, suggesting the idea as a way for his son to assist elderly neighbours on their street. The concept revolved around providing a much-needed service while also instilling a sense of responsibility and worth in Ashton. “It’s a good way to start putting yourself out there and learning the value of your time,” Jonathan explained to CP24.

Initially hesitant, Ashton faced the challenge of approaching his neighbours about the service. The prospect of rejection weighed heavily on him, and he recounted feeling upset when he first encountered a negative response from a potential client. However, with encouragement from his father and understanding of the potential rewards, Ashton pushed through his fears. “I realised it’s a good way to make money because I did not have any,” he said, highlighting his determination.
Since launching ‘YourBinCleaning’, Ashton has expanded his client base significantly, now serving approximately 30 to 40 households. He dedicates two days each week to marketing his service, going door to door alongside his father, who provides transport. Another two days are spent cleaning the bins, during which Ashton can clean between two to three bins per hour.
In addition to providing a cleaning service, Ashton has embraced social media to document his entrepreneurial journey. His mother manages the Instagram account for YourBinCleaning, which has experienced explosive growth in followers since its launch, thanks to the videos and posts highlighting Ashton’s work. The family even appeared on Fox Business to share their story, further amplifying their reach.
The unexpected success of the business has brought many opportunities, including financial support from community members who wish to contribute. Some have chosen to donate, allowing Ashton to offer complimentary cleaning services for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Jonathan expressed his amazement at the community response, noting, “We did not expect it to blow up the way it did. It’s been overwhelming.”
As demand for his services has grown, so too has interest in branded merchandise. With requests for T-shirts soaring, Jonathan joked about the newfound need to start packing shirts while on the move.
Ashton is not stopping at trash bin cleaning; he has plans to diversify his offerings with seasonal services. He intends to add leaf collection and snow removal to his repertoire, as well as garden clean-up and lawn mowing as the weather changes throughout the year. “In fall, I’m going to do leaf raking, and then [in] winter, I want to save up for a power broom so I can clear driveways effectively,” he elaborated.
In reflecting on his son’s entrepreneurial journey, Jonathan believes that Ashton is forging important skills for his future. The experience is not just about earning money; it’s about learning how to interact with customers and develop a strong work ethic, all of which contribute to personal growth. “Generating that good work ethic early will lead to a lot of success in life,” Jonathan noted.
Ashton Meyer’s inspiring story exemplifies how determination, creativity, and community support can transform a simple idea into a thriving business. With a bright future ahead, Ashton aims not only to continue helping his neighbours but also to equip himself with valuable skills that will serve him for years to come.
