A woman from Nottinghamshire, England, has shared her inspiring weight-loss journey that led her to shed a staggering 343 pounds. Laura Budreviciene’s transformation not only changed her physique but also her perspective on life, culminating in the gift of motherhood that she once thought was out of reach.

Laura’s struggle with weight began as early as childhood, when she realised she was the heaviest in her school year at just 11 years old. Weighing 154 pounds at that age, she recounted feeling distinct from her peers, which had a lasting impact on her self-image. Over the years, Laura attempted numerous diets and weight-loss programmes with little success, eventually reaching her peak weight of 525 pounds.

Daily activities became increasingly daunting for Laura, with simple tasks posing daily challenges. Recalling a particularly painful memory, she described visiting an amusement park at age 19 where she was unable to fit into a ride, a moment that left her feeling humiliated. Despite this, Laura maintained a level of self-confidence, stating that her weight did not fundamentally affect her self-worth. “I was content in my life,” she said.
However, repeated warnings from doctors about her health sparked concern, with one stark prediction echoing in her ears: “You will be dead by 30.” Nonetheless, Laura initially dismissed these warnings, feeling that her life was stable and that those around her didn’t focus on her size. It wasn’t until she suffered a miscarriage at the age of 22 that she began to reconsider her lifestyle choices. Doctors informed her that her weight could hinder her chances of starting a family, a dream she had long held dear.
This pivotal moment became the catalyst for change in Laura’s life. “The real change for me was having the miscarriage,” she articulated, adding that it compelled her to take action towards her health for the sake of her future family. In October 2020, she underwent gastric bypass surgery, which marked the beginning of her physical transformation.
In the year following her surgery, Laura lost an impressive 280 pounds. After the births of her two daughters, her weight loss journey continued with the help of weight-loss injections, ultimately bringing her to her current weight of 182 pounds and a size 10 in clothing. Reflecting on her accomplishments, Laura identified her children as her biggest triumph. “My best non-scale victory is obviously my children,” she said, noting that her weight loss was essential for her to achieve motherhood.
As she continues her journey, Laura remains committed to her health and plans to have skin removal surgery to further reflect her transformation. Her experience has not only changed her own life, but she hopes it can also motivate others facing similar struggles.
Laura advises those beginning their own weight loss processes to simply “just start.” She emphasised the importance of taking immediate action and not waiting for the right moment, which often feels elusive. “It’s a bad day, not a bad life,” she stated, offering reassurance to those who might feel overwhelmed by the journey ahead. She also encouraged patience, reminding others that significant changes take time and shouldn’t be rushed.
Through sharing her story, Laura Budreviciene aims to inspire and support individuals embarking on their own journeys towards health and wellness. Her experience is a testament to the notion that it’s never too late to make a change and that self-love and determination can lead to incredible transformations.
