The Kansas City Chiefs have taken a significant step towards the future with the announcement of plans for a new stadium. On July 22, the franchise revealed renderings of a sleek, $3 billion, domed venue, which will replace Arrowhead Stadium, the team’s home since 1972. This new facility will be located approximately 25 miles west of its predecessor, in Kansas, and is expected to be ready for the 2031 season.

Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt expressed his excitement about this development, stating, “Today we are excited to show Chiefs Kingdom a first look at our new home.” He emphasised the focus on enhancing the experience for fans, ensuring that this new stadium meets their expectations for a thrilling gameday environment.
The renderings provide a glimpse of a modern structure that will accommodate around 70,000 spectators. A standout feature is the venue’s distinct undulating roof made of transparent ETFE polymer panels, allowing natural light while protecting fans from harsh winter conditions. This design is set to revolutionise the viewing experience for supporters, making it a year-round attraction.
Kansas City architects MANICA lead the design, with HNTB serving as the project’s architect of record. Both firms have experience in sports architecture and are tasked with the challenge of creating a facility that resonates with the city’s sporting culture while pushing innovative boundaries.
The new stadium will be situated near the Kansas Speedway and The Legends entertainment district, a location selected to optimise accessibility and fan engagement. Despite the many changes the new venue will bring, Hunt has assured fans that it will retain elements reminiscent of Arrowhead Stadium. The curved exterior and scalloped upper deck are intended to pay homage to the iconic design of the existing venue.
Moreover, the project will offer substantial amenities, with over 20,000 parking spots planned. Hunt has confidently remarked that “it will still be the best place in the world to tailgate,” ensuring that the spirit of community and celebration remains a cornerstone of Chiefs game days.
