Feek, 61, took to his Substack account to announce that Indiana, affectionately referred to as “Indy,” is now home and recovering after her open-heart surgery. This significant step comes after a challenging period for the family.

In his post dated July 18, Feek expressed relief that they were finally able to bring Indy home from the children’s hospital in Austin. He noted that the medical team had kept her under close observation for longer than initially planned to ensure she was entirely ready for discharge. “Yesterday afternoon, eight days after going back to the children’s hospital in Austin, we finally got word that Indy was free and clear to come home,” Feek wrote, reflecting on the anxious days his family endured.
Upon arriving back home, the Feek family took some time to reconnect. While Rory and his wife, Rebecca, unpacked, Indiana busily opened letters and cards that well-wishers had sent during her hospital stay. “Honestly, the outpouring of love from everyone – some we know and most we’ll probably never meet – that we’ve received in the last few weeks has been absolutely humbling for our whole family,” he shared. To mark the occasion, the family enjoyed a walk together to discuss the past week’s events, bringing a sense of normalcy after the tumultuous hospitalisation.
The health challenges faced by Indiana are rooted in her diagnosis with Down syndrome, a condition that often comes with associated health issues, particularly heart problems. Rory had previously shared that Indy was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect shortly after her birth in 2014. Complications arose when, just two weeks after her initial discharge, Indiana required emergency intervention after being airlifted to a hospital. Doctors discovered she had fluid surrounding her heart, necessitating an urgent procedure to drain a substantial amount of fluid. Feek described this period as a “near-death experience,” underscoring the gravity of Indiana’s medical condition.
Although the latest update on Indy’s condition has sparked relief and gratitude from Rory and his family, it has further complicated family dynamics. Rory’s estranged daughters, Heidi and Hopie, recently voiced their disapproval over their father’s public sharing of Indiana’s health issues. The siblings, who have been absent from their sister’s life for over two years due to ongoing disputes regarding her care, criticised their father for what they termed the “ongoing exploitation” of their sister’s health journey.
In a pointed Instagram video, Heidi expressed her dismay at learning of Indiana’s health struggles from social media rather than through personal communication. “I am upset that I found out on Instagram,” Heidi stated, adding that the implications of sharing such personal matters can have serious emotional ramifications for Indiana, who cannot consent to her story being shared publicly.
