Katia, 32, initiated her podcast in August 2022, primarily motivated by her own challenges during the postpartum period following the birth of her first daughter, Kalina, in 2020. The strain of adjusting to motherhood compounded by the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic led her to seek a platform for honest discussions about the often-overlooked struggles associated with parenting. “I experienced postpartum depression and felt a lack of conversations that could have helped me,” she reflected during her conversation with WAG World host Skyler Caruso.

The podcast began as a virtual support network for mothers grappling with similar feelings of isolation. “I wanted to create a space for those struggling with postpartum issues, to feel seen and validated,” she explained. Now in its seventh season, “Un-a-Parent” has blossomed into a multifaceted forum, tackling varied topics that extend beyond motherhood to encompass social justice, political commentary, and community issues intertwined with parenting.
Katia described her podcast as not just a project, but “almost like my fourth child.” She expressed pride in how it has developed alongside her personal growth as a mother of three. The podcaster’s evolution mirrors her journey, highlighting the diverse experiences that accompany motherhood over time. “It’s been so near and dear to my heart,” she emphasised, indicating a deep personal connection to the work.
A distinctive feature of Katia’s podcast is its bilingual format, designed to reach a broader audience by addressing the often neglected mental health conversations in Latino communities. As a Puerto Rican, Katia recognised that discussions regarding mental health are frequently underrepresented in Spanish-speaking contexts. “I have a large Hispanic following because of my background, and I realised that these critical conversations were more prevalent in English than in Spanish,” she noted. By offering content in both languages, she aims to close this gap and extend her message to those who may benefit from it but struggle to access it in English.
Her approach has cultivated a diverse community of listeners, and Katia mentioned that the positive feedback and relationship with her audience has led to unexpected opportunities. “The most rewarding part has been meeting incredible individuals and getting to engage with them on meaningful topics,” she said, highlighting the relational aspect of her work.
Katia’s initiative reflects a growing awareness of the need for open dialogues about mental health within various cultural contexts. Her podcast aims not only to provide resources but also to foster connections and support amongst mothers who may feel overwhelmed by their experiences.
As she looks ahead, Katia Lindor continues to inspire others through her dedication to sharing authentic stories and facilitating discussions around parenting and mental health. Her commitment to creating an inclusive space for conversation serves as an important reminder of the shared struggles and triumphs of motherhood, transcending cultural boundaries.
