In a remarkable demonstration of modern technology, Ashley Jordan successfully located her missing orange tabby cat, Scotlyn, in the woods surrounding her home in Wadley, Alabama. This follow-up on her previous experience with her husky, Jax, underscores the reliability of GPS tracking devices in ensuring the safety of pets.

Jordan, 29, shares that her family, which includes her fiancé Dusty, their child, and three pets, recently faced a frightening situation when Jax wandered off. As an “escape artist”, Jax found himself venturing beyond familiar territory, ending up near a busy highway. A quick check of the Life360 app, which is connected to his GPS collar, provided valuable real-time location data, enabling Dusty to retrieve him before any harm could occur.
“The moment we realised he was missing, we checked the app and saw he was on the highway,” Jordan recounted. “Dusty jumped in his truck and went right after him. The tracker led him straight to where Jax was.” Without the GPS technology, it is highly likely that the outcome could have been tragic, potentially resulting in injury or worse.
Having experienced the successful recovery of Jax, Jordan then opted to equip Scotlyn with a tracker as well, given the cat’s habit of lounging outdoors. Initially, Scotlyn stayed close to home, but a sense of security led Jordan to allow him outside more frequently. However, in April, the worst occurred when Jordan left home without Scotlyn, only to later discover the tracker was nearly out of charge.
Despite the device’s low battery showing a mere 5%, the Reserve Mode feature activated, allowing Jordan to still receive updates on Scotlyn’s whereabouts. This vital setting enables GPS trackers to function for extended periods, using Bluetooth signals rather than draining conventional GPS energy. Jordan expressed relief that despite the tracker nearing its end, she could still pinpoint his general location.
Over the course of several days, Jordan scoured the area in search of Scotlyn, even utilising Life360’s community alert feature to inform her neighbours of the missing cat. However, the cat proved elusive. Exhausted from her search, Jordan was contemplating hiring a thermal drone operator at a cost of £500 when a final glimmer of hope emerged.
“I was notified around nine o’clock that Scotlyn was spotted near a neighbour’s house,” she recounted. Determined, Jordan set out to find her pet. Approaching the cat’s new location, she activated a light linked to Scotlyn’s tracker, leading her closer. Relief washed over her as she saw a flash of light in the distance.
As she reached the vicinity, Scotlyn dashed into the woods. Following the light of the tracker through the trees, Jordan was overwhelmed with emotion when her beloved pet bounded into her arms. “He just jumped into my arms, and I sprinted to the car with him,” she said joyfully, describing the heartwarming reunion.
Now, Jordan is committed to ensuring all her pets’ GPS trackers are kept charged, fully aware of the reliable support these devices offer. “The technology has truly been a lifesaver for us. I can’t imagine what might have happened without it,” she affirmed earnestly.
The insights garnered from her experiences have prompted Life360 to ramp up its efforts in pet safety. The company recently launched its first-ever Runaway Report, highlighting the frequency of pet disappearances on Independence Day and offering guidance on how to reduce the risk of pets wandering off.
As pet owners continue to explore safe practices for their furry companions, Jordan’s story serves as a reminder of the significance of advancements in GPS technology. For those living in rural areas, these devices can prove indispensable in safeguarding beloved pets and reuniting families during distressing times.
