Peterson was last seen at Bar N9ne, located on West 1st Street, during the early hours of June 28. Surveillance footage captured him walking on Front Street shortly after leaving the establishment. Concern grew when he did not return home or make contact with his family, prompting them to report him missing by Sunday afternoon.
In the search for Peterson, his family and friends played a significant role by scouring the Ediz Hook area, where they discovered personal belongings they believed belonged to him on the south end of the sand spit. This discovery led to intensified search efforts involving multiple local agencies.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office released information regarding the extensive multi-agency search, which included the use of drones, helicopters, and K9 teams to locate Peterson. A crucial breakthrough came when a human remains detection water K9 team from Snohomish County demonstrated a change in behaviour near the boat launch adjacent to the U.S. Coast Guard base. This led investigators to focus their efforts in that area, thinking that it was where Peterson was last seen.

Search teams employed a remotely operated vehicle to explore underwater areas near the dock as additional precautions. While the search did not immediately yield results, the information gathered from these efforts was used by a dive team later summoned to the scene.
On the morning of July 1, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Region 4 Dive Team conducted an underwater search at Ediz Hook. Just 20 minutes into the operation, they discovered Peterson’s remains. The Coast Guard assisted in the recovery process, ensuring the operation was conducted with care.
In a statement, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office expressed their deepest condolences to Peterson’s family, friends, and all those affected by his loss. They appealed to the community to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
The tragic circumstances surrounding Peterson’s disappearance highlight the emotional toll that such incidents can have on families and communities. Many have rallied to support his family, sending messages of sympathy and condolences as they navigate this difficult period.
As investigators continue to seek clarity on the events leading up to his death, the local community is left mourning the loss of a young man whose life was tragically cut short. The sheriff’s office is also expected to continue its work to provide answers and closure to those who loved him.
