Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott recently held a heartfelt memorial for their late son, Zen, on what would have been his fifth birthday. The poignant gathering took place by the seaside, with family and friends participating to pay tribute to the young boy, who tragically passed away from a brain tumour at just five months old in December 2021.

The couple, who have both been outspoken about their grief and the impact of losing Zen, shared the emotional day via social media. In various photographs uploaded to Instagram, Cannon, Scott, and their guests dressed in white, a colour often associated with purity and remembrance. They were seen holding candles aloft, as a symbol of hope and love for their departed son.

Accompanying the candles was a birthday cake adorned with a picture of Zen and a numeral five candle, creating a touching visual tribute to what should have been a joyous occasion. In his message, Cannon reflected on Zen’s legacy, quoting a passage from the Bible to highlight the enduring light of his son’s spirit. He wrote, “Zen’s Light will forever shine in our hearts. We love you my son ❤️🕊️🙏🏾.”

Nick Cannon, known for his role as the host of ‘The Masked Singer,’ is a father to a large brood, with twelve children in total. His parenting journey includes twins Moroccan and Monroe with his former wife Mariah Carey, as well as sons Golden Sagon and Rise Messiah Cannon and daughter Powerful Queen with Brittany Bell. With Abby De La Rosa, he shares twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, along with daughter Beautiful Zeppelin. He also has son Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi and daughter Onyx Ice Cole with LaNisha Cole.
Cannon and Scott welcomed another daughter, Halo Marie Cannon, on December 14, 2022, almost a year after Zen’s passing. This new baby girl has undoubtedly been a source of joy and light for the couple as they continue to navigate life after the loss of their son.
Last year, on what would have been Zen’s fourth birthday, Cannon similarly marked the occasion by sharing a touching video. In that post, he lit a candle and visited a local children’s hospital as part of his remembrance. He expressed how despite Zen’s brief time with them, his light continues to shine through the work of the Zen’s Light Foundation, an initiative aimed at supporting families affected by childhood illnesses.
During the earlier tribute, Cannon announced an initiative in Zen’s memory in collaboration with ReisFields, calling it “Zen’s Light: A Celebration of Life Candle.” Proceeds from the candle sales are directed towards aiding families dealing with the ramifications of childhood cancer and other serious health issues, further cementing Zen’s legacy in positive and impactful ways.
As Cannon and Scott continue to honour their son’s memory, their celebrations reflect a deep commitment to keeping Zen’s spirit present in their lives and the lives of others. Surrounded by friends and family, the beachside memorial served as a powerful reminder of love, loss, and the light that remains even in the darkest times.
The emotional day not only served to celebrate Zen’s life but also highlighted the profound bond Cannon and Scott share as they navigate their journey as parents. As they look towards the future with their growing family, the remembrance of Zen will always be a cherished part of their hearts.
