As featured in the popular Netflix docuseries *America’s Sweethearts*, Lahey exemplifies the unique challenges faced by members of the DCC. The cheerleaders not only perform for fans but also juggle full-time careers, personal relationships, and the additional complexities brought about by social media, all while committing to the rigorous demands of cheerleading.

The latest season of *America’s Sweethearts*, which has premiered alongside the DCC training camp, marks a significant milestone for Lahey. As she prepares for her impending nuptials, the timing adds yet another layer of responsibility. Lahey first became known for her distinct style during her rookie year, notably being the only cheerleader to wear straight hair on the field, diverging from the team’s signature voluminous styles.
Lahey describes her approach to wedding planning as belonging to the “type B” category, indicating that she is somewhat relaxed about the process. “It’s a lot to balance for sure,” she remarked, emphasising that her organisational skills have played a crucial role in managing her commitments. She believes that effective time management is vital for anyone wishing to become a member of the DCC, explaining that it is one of the core attributes necessary for success on the team.
The support provided by her teammates has proven invaluable. Many of her peers have already navigated the challenges of planning weddings and are available to offer advice. Lahey appreciates the camaraderie within the squad, noting, “Having teammates that have already been married and have recently gotten married, so I can ask anyone for advice or help on how they navigated this all, too, has been a huge help.”
The bond among the DCC extends beyond professional obligations, fostering a unique sisterhood that lasts a lifetime. A revered tradition among cheerleaders involves a coordinated performance of the team’s famous “Thunderstruck” dance at weddings, and Lahey is keen to incorporate this element into her celebrations.
As the DCC undergoes changes with the departure of a number of veterans, Lahey is conscious of maintaining strong connections with her teammates. “It’s definitely a hard transition,” she acknowledged, referring to the changes within the team dynamic. While some of her friends are pursuing opportunities as ‘All Stars’, she is committed to ensuring that their relationships endure through regular meet-ups, such as coffee dates and group activities, including study sessions.
The third-year cheerleader is not only focusing on her wedding but is also preparing to embrace a leadership role within the squad. Lahey’s passion for dance ignited at an early age, and she recalls a pivotal moment in high school where the team environment profoundly influenced her aspirations. Having developed a fascination with the DCC through shows like *Making the Team*, she determined that this particular cheerleading squad was her ultimate goal.
Now, entering her third year, Lahey feels a growing confidence in her abilities. “In my second year, I was a bit more comfortable, but now, I’m ready to focus on helping and leading others, especially the new recruits,” she explained. Her desire to assist and elevate her teammates signifies her commitment to the team ethos and reflects her dedication to nurturing the next generation of cheerleaders.
Despite her increased comfort, Lahey remains grounded and values the need for continued effort to maintain her place on the team. “We’re never too comfortable, never safe — I’m still working hard for my spot,” she asserted, demonstrating her resolve and determination.
As Ava Lahey navigates the complexities of her dual life as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader and a bride-to-be, her journey showcases her remarkable ability to inspire through leadership, balance, and a genuine commitment to her teammates. With her wedding plans on the horizon and the rigours of cheerleading continuing, Lahey embodies the spirit of resilience and dedication that the DCC is known for.
