Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly set to travel to the United Kingdom next month, marking a significant return for the family after a four-year absence. They are expected to bring their two children, Prince Archie, aged seven, and Princess Lilibet, who is five. This visit occurs against the backdrop of Prince Harry’s involvement in commemorating the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be hosted in Birmingham.

The family may also pay a poignant visit to Princess Diana’s burial site. Althorp House, the ancestral estate of the Spencer family where Diana is interred, is currently closed to the public on July 10 and 11, leading to speculation that the Sussexes might potentially stay there. Notably, Prince Harry has stayed at Althorp before, especially during visits for family occasions such as the funeral of his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, in August 2024.

Diana, who tragically passed away in a car accident in Paris in 1997 at the age of 36, is buried on an island within the ornamental lake known as The Round Oval in the Pleasure Garden at Althorp Park. This location is a place of private reflection, as her gravesite is not accessible to the public.

Although it is believed that Archie and Lilibet have not yet visited their grandmother’s resting place, Prince Harry shared a heartfelt memory in his memoir, “Spare.” He recounted bringing Meghan to Althorp in 2022, a visit made more significant by the coinciding twenty-fifth anniversary of Diana’s death. Harry reflected on the moment, mentioning that he placed flowers on her grave and communicated with her in his thoughts, seeking her guidance. Meghan took her moment of reflection as well, closing her eyes in prayer.
Accommodation plans for the Sussexes during their UK visit remain uncertain. Reports indicate that King Charles III has extended an offer for the family to stay on a royal estate, although that offer has yet to receive a response. Previously, Prince Harry declined an invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace, further complicating their familial ties amid ongoing public scrutiny.
Notably, since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lost their taxpayer-funded police protection, a matter Harry is currently contesting in court. He has expressed concerns regarding their safety during visits to the UK, highlighting the importance of access to secure accommodation, particularly for his children. In previous statements, Harry has emphasised that the UK holds significant cultural and familial importance for his family, underscoring his desire for Archie and Lilibet to feel an intrinsic connection to the country.
The couple’s most recent family trip to the UK, prior to this upcoming journey, occurred during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II in June 2022. On that occasion, Archie and Lilibet did not participate in public engagements, although they celebrated Lilibet’s first birthday in a private gathering at Frogmore Cottage, their former residence.
Meghan made another brief visit later in 2022 for charity events alongside Harry, during which Queen Elizabeth passed away. The couple opted to extend their stay to attend the funeral and related ceremonies, highlighting their close connection to royal family events, even amidst their complex relationship with other family members.
As for the potential for reconciliation between Prince Harry and his father, the King, no arrangements have been confirmed for the visit. Their last face-to-face interaction occurred in September 2025, where they had a private dialogue lasting approximately 55 minutes after a lengthy period of estrangement. Prince Harry has voiced his hope for a resolution to the rift, stressing the importance of familial ties and the precious nature of life.
While the Sussexes’ upcoming visit to the UK is still being finalised, it presents an opportunity for the family to reconnect both with their heritage and with key locations linked to their past, particularly for Prince Harry who has expressed a strong desire to share his mother’s legacy with his children. The interest surrounding this trip continues to develop, with the world watching closely how the family navigates their relationship with the royal family during this emotionally charged time.
