Bunnie Xo, a prominent figure in the podcasting world and former partner of country star Jelly Roll, has spoken candidly about her recent separation during a recent episode of her podcast, Dumb Blonde. The couple, who were married for close to ten years, officially filed for divorce on May 18 this year. As the dust settles from their split, Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, has taken the opportunity to address various speculations surrounding her personal life.
On June 18, Bunnie Xo addressed ongoing rumours regarding potential new relationships. In particular, she denied claims that she had been dating Chad Kroeger, the frontman of the rock band Nickelback. The speculation was raised after she shared a TikTok video lip-syncing to the band’s iconic track “How You Remind Me” and an Instagram clip showing her in a friendly embrace with Kroeger. “I am not dating Chad Kroeger. I am so sorry to Chad and Nickelback for this happening. It’s embarrassing,” she clarified during her podcast.

The 46-year-old voiced her admiration for Kroeger, adding, “There’s no Chad and Bunnie Xo. Your girl is not going to ever be in another relationship.” This strong statement seems to indicate her desire to focus on her own wellbeing in the wake of her divorce.

Bunnie’s comments came shortly after Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, initiated their divorce proceedings in Williamson County, Tennessee, citing irreconcilable differences. While she acknowledged that Jelly Roll has begun dating again, she expressed support for him, stating she was “happy for him.” However, she expressed dismay at the suggestion that he may be involvied with singer-songwriter Jessie Murph due to their significant age gap, calling such insinuations “kind of disgusting.”
In a moment of introspection, Bunnie took responsibility for her role in the dissolution of their marriage. She refrained from casting blame on Jelly Roll, emphasising the complexity of relationships. “I’m not going to say anything about Jay’s actions because I don’t feel like it’s the right time and I don’t feel like it’s my place,” she remarked. “Marriages take a lot of work.”
Bunnie highlighted the challenges of maintaining a long-term relationship, humbly stating that she admires those who manage to stay married for decades. “My hat goes off to anybody who can be married for ten, twenty, thirty years. Like, holy s—,” she said, acknowledging the commitment required to sustain a successful partnership.
Reflecting on her bond with Jelly Roll, Bunnie described him as her “best friend.” Despite the split, she reiterated her support for him and their family dynamic, which includes Jelly Roll’s daughter Bailee and son Noah. “My family was always so important to me, and when I said those vows with him, I really meant them,” she expressed.
Bunnie also candidly acknowledged her struggles with marriage, noting that this was her third attempt at marriage. “Obviously, I’m not f—ing good at marriage. F—ing three strikes, you’re out, bitch,” she said, demonstrating a rare transparency about her personal experiences. However, she is not bitter about her journey. Instead, she praises Jelly Roll for being instrumental in her growth, stating, “He was the catalyst for me becoming the woman that I am today. And for that, I will always be [grateful].”
As they navigate their separate paths post-divorce, Bunnie Xo continues to prioritise her family while also developing her own individual identity outside of her marriage. Her candid discussions on her podcast provide insight into the often-hidden complexities of relationships, making her journey relatable to many. As both parties move on, there remains a sense of mutual respect that speaks volumes about their shared history and commitment to co-parenting.
Bunnie’s openness about her struggles and growth is not just a testament to her strength but also serves as an encouragement to others facing similar challenges in their personal lives.
