With over 200 heartwarming photographs, “Hollywood Tails” aims to showcase the infectious joy that celebrities experience when they are with their beloved four-legged companions. Among the notable personalities featured in the book are Amanda Seyfried with her dog Finn and Paula Abdul with her pets. The book promises not only stunning imagery but also delightful quotes from the stars themselves, providing readers with insight into their relationships with their animals.
Nunn and Janis launched their photography venture, Charlie Nunn Photography, in 2016 with a vision to create artwork tailored for dog lovers. Noticing a gap in studio photography options for pet owners, the duo decided to offer a simple and artistic approach using classic backdrops. As Janis explained, their “obsession came before the profession,” and both photographers share their lives with four dogs.

The pair quickly garnered attention for their unique style, and their studio became a hub for pet-centric photography. After five years of successful portraits of everyday clients, they began to reach out to celebrities. This decision sparked a creative journey that led to over 250 sessions with famous faces, allowing Nunn and Janis to capture moments filled with authenticity and happiness.
Describing their work, Janis noted that placing a cherished pet in a person’s lap often evokes genuine smiles and warmth, making it easier to photograph relaxed and joyful expressions. “We found that the dogs really bring out a natural side of the celebrities,” he said, highlighting how the presence of animals can ease the tension that sometimes accompanies photo shoots.
Among the endearing moments immortalised in the book, Janis recalls Judy Greer’s humorous remark when asked what she would change about her dog, Mary Richards. Her candid response, expressing a desire for her pet not to “bite my husband,” is just one example of the light-heartedness that features throughout “Hollywood Tails.”
The photographers have encountered numerous celebrities throughout their careers, but they found that even those with challenging reputations were more than accommodating when working alongside animals. As Janis observed, their approach stands apart as they relate to subjects on a personal level, connecting through a shared love for dogs.
With extensive experience working with over 6,000 dogs, Nunn and Janis have developed techniques to keep their furry models engaged during photo sessions. “We use a variety of noise-makers and change sounds regularly to capture their attention,” Nunn shared, also noting that many dogs respond well to food motivation, which can assist in directing successful shots.
Looking ahead, both Nunn and Janis are eager to share their passion for pets and photography with a wider audience through “Hollywood Tails.” They hope that the uplifting tone of the book resonates with readers and brings them similar joy. “We want happiness to be synonymous with our photography,” Janis conveyed.
“Hollywood Tails: Famous Faces and the Dogs They Love” is currently available for pre-order, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Wags and Walks, a local rescue organisation. For anyone looking to indulge in the delightful world of celebrity and canine companionship, this book promises to be a heartwarming addition to any collection.
