Beekeeper’s Naturals has issued a voluntary recall of its saline nasal spray after concerns were raised regarding potential contamination by a common mould known as Aspergillus spp. The announcement was made by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on 11 June, cautioning consumers about the potential health risks associated with the product.

This saline nasal spray, which is sold exclusively through Amazon, has exceeded acceptable microbiological limits for yeast, according to the FDA. As a consequence, the agency warned that the product may contain Aspergillus spp., a type of mould that can pose serious health risks, particularly for individuals with compromised immune systems or pre-existing lung conditions.

Reports have surfaced indicating that four consumers experienced adverse effects that could be connected to the recalled product. Symptoms reported include sinus congestion, irritation, and infection. The FDA has highlighted that those at heightened risk include individuals suffering from lung diseases or weakened immune systems, particularly emphasising the potential for serious infections such as invasive sinusitis and lung infections.
The specific lot number affected by the recall is 5950, with an expiration date of February 2028. Consumers can find this information either on the bottom or back label of the nasal spray bottle. Beekeeper’s Naturals has acknowledged a “clerical error” that resulted in the unintentional shipment of 585 units of the affected product to Amazon, which were sold between 2 and 24 April 2026.
In light of the situation, the company has reached out to customers who purchased the impacted lot, ensuring they are informed of the recall and the risks involved. It is important to note that Beekeeper’s Naturals’ Saline Nasal Spray is the only product currently subject to the recall; other products from the brand, including its Nasal Spray Max, are not affected.
Consumers who suspect they have purchased the recalled product are advised to verify the lot number. In the event that they have the affected product, they should cease use immediately. Those experiencing health complications they believe are related to the saline nasal spray are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider. Additionally, reports of adverse reactions can be submitted via the FDA’s reporting system.
In an official statement included in the FDA’s release, Beekeeper’s Naturals expressed its commitment to resolving the issue. The company stated that it has taken prompt corrective measures to identify and address the source of the contamination concern. “We remain fully committed to the rigorous quality standards our customers expect from us,” the statement read, reflecting the brand’s focus on maintaining customer trust and safety.
It is crucial for consumers to remain vigilant in checking their personal health products for safety concerns, especially those with high-risk health profiles. This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of quality control in health-related products and underscores the role of regulatory bodies in safeguarding public health.
For any further updates or information regarding the recall, Beekeeper’s Naturals and the FDA encourage consumers to stay informed through official channels.
