King recounted how her harrowing ordeal began shortly after returning home from work. At approximately 4 a.m., she suddenly lost consciousness and fell in her bathroom, suffering injuries to her head and face. Her fiancé, Stuart Broad, a well-known former cricket player, was with her at the time and played a crucial role in her recovery. Expressing her emotions, King stated that the experience was a “huge shock” and acknowledged the gravity of the situation by stating that it could have had far more serious implications.

In her Instagram update, King thanked her fiancé for his support during this distressing time. “I keep thinking how grateful I am that I wasn’t on my own and had Stuart to bring me round after I fell,” she noted. Their relationship, cemented by the couple’s two daughters, offered her comfort in a moment of fear.
The presenter also expressed her gratitude to the medical staff at St George’s Hospital who attended to her following the fall. She commended healthcare professionals Amy and Hannah for their exceptional care, saying, “A huge thank you to Amy and Hannah at St George’s Hospital who were absolutely incredible, stitching me up so well, and even managed to see past the Looney Tunes pyjama top I arrived in.”
Following the incident, King reflected on her health and well-being, stating that it was a timely reminder to prioritise her recovery. Emphasising the importance of looking after herself, she said, “It’s been a real wake-up call that I need to make some time to get my strength back, not just for my own health, but so I can be the best version of myself for my family too.”
After nearly two weeks away from her broadcasting duties, King took to social media to update her followers about her gradual return to normalcy. She posted about spending a joyful day with one of her daughters, remarking, “Yesterday was my first day doing anything social. After what has felt like a very long two weeks, it was amazing to get out and spend time with my girls.” This outing surprisingly featured a delightful moment when they spotted Broad on a big screen, which brought smiles to all their faces.
In her message of appreciation, King extended her thanks to all those who had reached out during her recovery. She expressed her gratitude for the birthday messages she received, indicating how much their kindness meant to her. Reinforcing her connection with her audience, she concluded with, “I can’t wait to be back on the radio with Matt today.”
Later that day, King made her return to BBC Radio 1, where she shared insights about her recent experience. Reflecting on the challenging time she had endured, she described the last few weeks as “grim” but also conveyed her relief at being back on air. “It’s so, so good to be back,” she told listeners, echoing her appreciation for their unwavering support.
In addition to her radio duties, King co-hosts the podcast “Novel Idea” with colleague Matt Edmondson. The duo focuses on creating a mystery novel, using each podcast episode to unveil a new chapter of their collaborative work. As she resumes her professional life, King will no doubt continue to balance her career with her family commitments, moving forward with renewed resolve and appreciation for her health.
