In a remarkable act of familial love and sacrifice, Kenny Ethan Jones, a 32-year-old transgender man from London, chose to pause his medical transition in 2024 to donate his eggs to his sister, Kizzy Jones, after she faced years of infertility.

The decision came after Kizzy had endured prolonged struggles with infertility, including devastating miscarriages that deeply affected the family. Recognising his sister’s resilience and determination, Kenny felt a compelling urge to assist her on her journey to motherhood. “When Kizzy mentioned she was looking into egg donors, I knew what I had to do,” he stated. For him, it felt more like a calling than a mere decision.
Kenny’s choice was not taken lightly, particularly as it required him to step back from the hard-won confidence he had achieved during his decade-long transition. Since coming out as transgender at the age of 11, the years had seen him make significant strides in aligning his physical appearance with his identity. His journey included starting hormone therapy and having top surgery, culminating in an overall sense of peace with who he is.
After careful consideration, Kenny began the process in May 2024. Before proceeding with the egg retrieval, doctors needed to assess his egg reserve. To both their surprise and relief, it emerged that his testosterone therapy may have enhanced his egg production capabilities. Medical professionals explained that trans men on testosterone sometimes experience higher egg reserves, a phenomenon similar to that observed in some cisgender women with elevated testosterone levels.
Once cleared for the procedure, Kenny had to adjust his hormone regimen significantly, reducing his testosterone dosage and halting the blockers. Medical experts ensured the process was handled with sensitivity, given his history of gender dysphoria. Kenny recalled his doctor’s thoughtful approach, which included prescribing Letrozole to help manage his hormone levels during the egg retrieval.
The egg harvesting itself lasted two weeks, a period Kenny described as far more challenging than he had anticipated. As he began the hormonal treatment, he became acutely aware of sensations in his body that he had worked hard to ignore. “My ovaries felt swollen, with a low, persistent throbbing pain,” he shared. Initially hopeful, the physical and emotional realities of the process soon weighed heavily on him.
Kenny had not extensively researched the details of the egg retrieval beforehand, opting for a more naive perspective to avoid fear. However, there were days when the demands of treatment felt overwhelming, forcing him to orchestrate his daily life around regimented schedules of pills and injections. “Day six was a real wake-up call,” he admitted, highlighting the physical strain of the process.
Despite the hardships, the driving force behind his perseverance was the thought of his sister’s happiness. Kenny stated, “Knowing how happy Kizzy could be if it all worked out was a powerful motivator.” His unwavering support from Kizzy and friends bolstered him during the arduous journey.
After completing the egg retrieval, the doctors collected 19 eggs, of which 13 were deemed viable and developed into six embryos ready for potential transfer. This positive outcome filled Kenny with gratitude, allowing him to appreciate his biological capabilities, even as he navigated the complexities of his gender identity.
Following the procedure, Kenny’s recovery process introduced new challenges as his menstrual cycle began to resume after halting testosterone treatment. He experienced emotions that harkened back to his teenage years, reflecting on moments of gender dysphoria. “It felt like being transported back to being that 15-year-old version of myself,” he acknowledged, but he reminded himself of how far he had come in embracing his identity.
The efforts paid off when Kizzy successfully became pregnant following the first embryo transfer in early 2025. Family joy peaked later that year when Kizzy welcomed her son, dubbed “Baby Jones,” into the world. For Kenny, becoming an uncle filled him with disbelief and joy, marking the culmination of an emotionally challenging yet transformative experience.
In reflecting on this journey, Kenny expressed a willingness to do it all over again. “If I had to do it all again…I would,” he concluded. The bond he has with his sister, melded by shared experiences and hardship, encapsulates the essence of familial support and love in overcoming life’s challenges.
