A young groom-to-be has sustained catastrophic injuries in a shocking accident just hours into his bachelor party in Puerto del Carmen, Spain. Dan Bevis, a 25-year-old from Alcester in England, fell nearly 20 feet from a railing that his fiancée, Kirsty Elvins, described as “really rusty and not secure.” The incident left him in a coma, raising concerns over his recovery ahead of his scheduled wedding in July.

Bevis had arrived in the popular resort town with friends on May 1 for a weekend of celebrations. According to Elvins, 26, after having a few drinks at a local bar, Bevis stepped outside to join a friend who was smoking. Tragically, while sitting on the precarious railing, he lost his balance, fell backwards, and landed headfirst.

Elvins recounted the moments following the fall, stating that her fiancé was left unconscious, with blood pouring from his head. A friend attempted to stabilize Bevis’s head while they awaited emergency services. “His condition was very touch and go,” she noted, revealing the extent of his injuries, which included a brain bleed, a fracture behind his ear, a broken collarbone, and a fractured sternum.
In the wake of the incident, Bevis was placed in a medically induced coma as doctors addressed the critical nature of his injuries. Fortunately, Elvins has confirmed that their travel insurance is expected to cover his medical expenses, which is a relief for the couple, who have a one-year-old son named Grayson.
However, the impact of Bevis’s injuries extends beyond immediate medical bills. As a self-employed plumber and carpenter, he is anticipated to take up to six weeks off work for recovery. In response to the financial strain, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family during this difficult time.
Elvins expressed frustration at misconceptions surrounding the accident, with some outsiders assuming that Bevis was heavily intoxicated. Clarifying the narrative, she stated, “He’d only had a couple of beers; it happened at the first bar they went to.” She further emphasised that if he had been drunk, their insurance may not have covered the claim.
Looking towards the future, Elvins remains hopeful that Bevis will be able to walk down the aisle at their wedding on July 3. “He can go really dizzy,” she explained, indicating that he may require a wheelchair for longer distances in the interim.
“This is a freak accident that has happened,” she remarked. The unpredictable nature of such incidents reminds us all of the fragility of life and the unexpected challenges that can arise in moments of celebration.
As of now, Elvins, along with friends and family, is focused on supporting Bevis in his recovery journey, hoping for the best outcomes as they prepare for their wedding day. The couple’s determination to face adversity together—and the support from their community—evokes a sense of solidarity in the face of tragedy.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers present in everyday activities and the importance of safety, particularly in unfamiliar environments. Moving forward, Elvins urges vigilance and care, hoping that others can learn from this frightening experience.
