**Moses Lake Teen Ready to Pursue Dream at Gonzaga University with KFC Foundation Support**

Krystal Salmeron, an ambitious 18-year-old from Moses Lake, Washington, is poised to achieve a remarkable educational milestone this year. She is preparing to graduate not only with a high school diploma but also with an associate’s degree, setting the stage for her upcoming journey at Gonzaga University where she intends to specialise in accounting.
Salmeron has shown exceptional dedication throughout her academic career, a commitment deeply inspired by her parents’ challenges. Both of her parents worked in agricultural fields from a young age, facing hardships that prevented them from pursuing higher education. Their sacrifices have served as a powerful motivating factor for Salmeron as she navigated her own educational path.

“My father was the eldest of six children and moved to the United States at the age of eight in 1990 without documentation. He began working in the fields as a child to help support his family,” Salmeron shared in a recent interview. Her mother’s journey is similarly grounded in hard work, as she also entered the agricultural workforce early on to assist her family.
Salmeron reflected on the impact of her parents’ experiences, stating, “Both my parents were only able to achieve their high school diplomas, as they had responsibilities that prevented them from furthering their education.” This understanding of her family’s sacrifices has not only fuelled her academic ambition but also instilled a strong desire to excel where her parents could not.
In pursuit of her educational goals, Salmeron also holds a position at KFC, where she has been not only earning an income but also gaining essential life skills. The KFC Foundation recently recognised her hard work by awarding her a generous $20,000 scholarship, a financial boost that has made her dream of attending Gonzaga University a reality. “Without this scholarship, my attendance wouldn’t have been possible,” she admitted, expressing her gratitude for the support she has received.
Her employment at KFC has proven to be transformative, bolstering her confidence and enhancing her communication abilities. “Initially, I was quite reserved and struggled with self-confidence,” she explained. “Working at KFC taught me invaluable skills, including customer service and leadership, and helped me become more open and self-assured.” Salmeron believes these experiences will be instrumental in shaping her future success.
As she prepares for the next phase of her educational journey, Salmeron hopes to serve as an example to others facing similar circumstances. She emphasised the importance of seeking out resources that can aid in educational pursuits, urging others to explore various support channels. “I would like to encourage readers to look for resources out there that can help with their educational expenses,” she advised.
With her sights firmly set on a bright future, Krystal Salmeron stands as a testament to resilience and determination. Her story underscores the significance of community support and the transformative power of education, inspiring many young individuals to strive for their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face.
As graduation approaches, Salmeron exemplifies the spirit of perseverance, demonstrating that with hard work, dedication, and the support of others, it is indeed possible to break generational barriers and reach one’s aspirations. She looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that await her at Gonzaga University, committed to honouring her family’s legacy while forging her own path in the field of accounting.
