Oscar winner Helen Mirren has recently offered her support to fellow actor Tom Hardy amid reports of tensions during the production of their latest project, the Paramount+ series “MobLand.” Mirren’s heartfelt message appeared on her Instagram account shortly after speculation surfaced regarding Hardy’s potential exit from the show.

On 28 May, the seasoned actress, aged 80, shared a touching photo of 48-year-old Hardy, accompanied by a simple yet affectionate caption: “Love you now and always,” which she signed off merely as “Helen.” This public display of camaraderie comes in the wake of media reports suggesting that Hardy may not return for a third season of the acclaimed crime drama.

Initial reports indicated that Hardy’s relationship with some members of the creative team, including co-creator Jez Butterworth and producer David Glasser, had become strained. However, in response to these claims, Variety later clarified that Hardy had not been dismissed from the series, and discussions regarding his return for a third season are ongoing.
A source close to the production reassured fans, stating, “Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3, and things are being worked through creatively.” It appears that while disagreements may have arisen during the filming, they did not occur to the extent that Hardy would be formally let go from the project.
Insiders suggested that Hardy and Butterworth had experienced some friction on set, particularly concerning the timing of script deliveries and creative input. Reports mentioned that Hardy was often late for his scheduled times, while he was also said to have submitted script notes that Butterworth, who is 57, did not have time to address. Moreover, there was frustration on Hardy’s part regarding the late arrival of scripts and Butterworth’s inconsistent presence during shooting.
While production for the second season has wrapped, it appears that Hardy may still be required for additional filming sessions in the coming weeks, as reported by Variety.
Hardy made a public appearance on 27 May at the after-party for the “Masters of the Universe” premiere in London, marking his first outing since the reports regarding his alleged dismissal had emerged. His presence at this event did little to confirm or deny the ongoing speculation about his future with “MobLand,” and representatives for both the series and the actors have yet to issue any responses to media inquiries.
In an interview with Parade in April 2025, Hardy spoke fondly of his co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, describing his experience working alongside them as “wonderful.” He expressed admiration for their extensive body of work and noted what an honour it was to collaborate with such talented actors.
At present, the first season of “MobLand” is available for streaming on Paramount+. Fans are eager for more, with the second season expected to be released in late 2026. As discussions about Hardy’s potential return continue, anticipation surrounding the show’s future remains high.
With Mirren’s recent declaration of support and assurances about Hardy’s status, it seems the production team may be working to resolve any issues amicably, in hopes of delivering further compelling narratives for their audience.
