Actor Josh Gad, known for his roles in blockbuster films like *Frozen*, has expressed delight over his youngest daughter’s recent affection for the classic television series *Seinfeld*. Gad, who was attending Disney’s Toast to Television event on 27 April, shared his thoughts with PEOPLE about how his 12-year-old daughter, Isabella, has taken a keen interest in the iconic 1990s sitcom.
“It’s unexpected but so wonderful,” said Gad, 45, regarding Isabella’s choice of binge-watch material. He added, “I feel like I can safely say I’ve done a great job raising her.” Despite the show’s conclusion years before Isabella’s birth, she has seemingly embraced its humour, much to her father’s amusement.
In addition to Isabella, Gad and his wife, Ida Darvish, also have a 15-year-old daughter, Ava. While Isabella engages with *Seinfeld*, Ava has been preoccupied with modern teen shows available on streaming platforms like Netflix. “My other daughter is watching teen shows that I just don’t understand,” Gad admitted. “I try to absorb it with her, but I’m usually very confused.”
Looking ahead, Gad shared that he plans to introduce Isabella to other classic comedies, considering either *Friends* or *The Office* next on their viewing agenda. This family bonding moment through television reflects Gad’s affection for humour and his desire to share those experiences with his daughters.
The actor fondly recounted how he and his wife first crossed paths while collaborating on a play titled *All in the Timing* back in 2004, where they portrayed a married couple. “I fell head-over-heels for her. At the time, she was 29 and I was 23, and we were both shocked when we learned the other person’s age,” Gad remarked. The couple tied the knot in 2008, and their enduring partnership shines through in their parenting approach.
Gad has often spoken about encouraging his children to read, contrasting this with his own childhood experiences. “I dreaded reading until I was 14,” he admitted. “I started reading the *Harry Potter* books to them when they were between the ages of 2 and 4, and they really fell in love with it.” This foundation in reading is a priority for Gad and Darvish, who consciously aimed to foster a love for literature in their daughters.
Technology is another topic of significant attention for the couple. Both Gad and Darvish have been mindful of their children’s screen time. “We are the parents who are screamed at every day by our children for not allowing unlimited screen time,” he noted, acknowledging the pressures faced in modern parenting. Their approach is rooted in a concern for preserving their daughters’ imagination and creativity, which they feel could be stifled by excessive digital engagement.
In a bid to adapt to the changing landscape of communication, Gad explained how he and Darvish use Snapchat as a controlled means to connect with their daughters. Recognising the social dynamics surrounding young people today, they have embraced the app within a family framework that allows them to monitor its usage.
However, Gad has reflected on the challenges of being a “cool dad” in the eyes of his children. He shared a light-hearted moment during an interview, saying, “They think I’m cool when a friend of theirs comes up and asks about *Frozen 3* or when a celebrity calls me. Then they say, ‘Oh, Dad’s got utility. That’s cool.’”
On the professional front, Gad continues to be active in his acting career. Recent projects include appearances in the series *Wonder Man* and *Zootopia 2*. He is also set to reprise his role as Olaf in the much-anticipated *Frozen 3*, as well as join forces with Ariana Grande for an animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s beloved book *Oh, the Places You’ll Go!*
