Daycare Worker Allegedly Brutally Beat Infant in Her Care Because She Was Mad About ‘Personal Issues’ and a Text Message

A daycare worker in Florida has been charged with aggravated child abuse following a harrowing incident involving a three-month-old infant in her care. The allegations point to a violent assault, reportedly prompted by personal issues and a distressing text message received by the accused, LaKayla E. Hamilton.

Authorities were alerted on 13 May when medical staff at HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City reported the arrival of an infant exhibiting severe injuries, including a fractured skull, broken leg, fractured ribs, and bleeding in the brain. In a statement released on social media, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) indicated that prompt medical attention from the child’s parents likely saved his life.

According to investigators, Hamilton was supervising the infant at the daycare during the time the injuries were inflicted. Initially, she denied any knowledge of how the boy was harmed. However, subsequent interviews led to her admission of assaulting the child. Reports suggest she confessed to violently slamming the infant into both a crib and a changing table out of frustration over her personal circumstances.

Police reported that Hamilton’s emotional state upon arriving at work was markedly disturbed, which escalated after receiving a text message that further incited her anger. In her confession, she revealed that she directed her rage towards the infant, resulting in repeated acts of violence. The acts included squeezing, shaking, and striking the child with toys in a futile effort to silence his cries.

The investigation indicated that the abuse did not stop with a single incident; Hamilton allegedly admitted to a second assault on the same day, manifesting similar violent behaviours towards the same infant. The police noted the disturbing nature of her admissions, highlighting that she could not recall the exact number of times she had harmed the baby due to the intense rage she reportedly experienced.

Following these revelations, Hamilton was taken into custody by law enforcement officers on 14 May and was charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse. Official records indicate that her bond was set at £210,000. Meanwhile, the ongoing investigation into the matter continues as authorities work to gather more information.
