A Florida couple has been arrested following an alleged assault on a mother while she was reprimanding her child in public. The incident has raised significant concern, with charges including battery and burglary being levelled against the individuals involved.

Mary Thalia Williams, 63, and her husband, Terry Williams, 66, are accused of physically attacking the unnamed mother after she corrected her four-year-old son’s behaviour. According to reports from WPLG Local 10, the altercation began when the mother smacked her son on the mouth and side after he spat at her during a disciplinary moment.
Terry Williams allegedly intervened, claiming to the mother that he was affiliated with the Florida Department of Children and Families. He admonished her for her parenting methods, prompting the mother to request that he leave her alone. It was reported that Terry walked away, but soon Mary approached the mother more confrontationally, sparking further conflict.
The situation escalated when the mother attempted to move Mary aside as she tried to get her son settled in the car. The mother has since stated that Mary scratched and choked her, leaving her feeling faint. The confrontation reportedly took a violent turn, with Mary grabbing the mother’s shirt, leading to a struggle that saw both individuals pulling at the shirt until it was torn off, leaving the mother in her bra.
As tensions escalated, Terry was said to have rejoined the fray, grabbing not only the mother’s hair but also her shirt. Witnesses at the scene reported a chaotic struggle, describing how the couple appeared to be trying to bring the mother to the ground. One onlooker noted that Mary was blocking the mother’s path and preventing her from leaving the area, heightening the sense of danger.
In addition to the physical aggression, police officers discovered multiple scratch marks on the victim’s throat, as well as a cut on her lower lip when they arrived at the scene. A witness stated that the couple was attacking the mother aggressively, while she seemingly made no attempt to fight back. When asked about the incident, he simply responded with “Nothing,” appearing dismissive of the allegations against him and his wife. Upon hearing a description of the witness’s account, Terry’s only response was, “Wow, really? Interesting,” suggesting a lack of serious engagement with the events.
