Pratt, a Texas native, faced numerous challenges while pursuing her dream of becoming an attorney. Over a span of just under five years, she undertook the bar exam five times, investing more than £20,000 in the process. The road was anything but smooth, fraught with emotional turmoil and life changes that tested her determination.
After relocating to Illinois, buying her first home, and stepping into a new role at a Fortune 50 company, Pratt faced her first setback in July 2021 when she failed the exam. “I felt every emotion possible—sadness, anger, and frustration,” she recalled. However, rather than succumbing to despair, Pratt chose to regroup and reinforce her study strategies for her next attempt.

Her optimism surged as she prepared for her second attempt in February 2022, convinced that her hard work would pay off. The disappointment was palpable when she fell short once again. “I had so much on the line,” she said, acknowledging the weight of expectations both from herself and her supportive family.
The pressure intensified during her third attempt in July 2022, compounded by the demands of a new job in risk and compliance. By this stage, Pratt found herself mentally and emotionally drained. “Looking back, I wish I hadn’t sat for that attempt,” she admitted, recognising that burnout had clouded her judgement and performance.
Faced with the need for a reset, Pratt took a step away from the examination process in 2023. This hiatus enabled her to prioritise her mental health and to lean into personal growth. She spent time travelling and reflecting on her journey, which ultimately allowed her to reconnect with her identity beyond the confines of being a bar exam retaker. “That break didn’t set me back; it prepared me,” she said.
Feeling rejuvenated, Pratt returned to her studies for her fourth attempt in February 2025. Although her preparation had improved, she fell short again, missing the pass mark by just eight points. Initially eager to register for the next exam, she reconsidered, opting instead to give herself the necessary time to approach the challenge with the right mental state. “Withdrawing from that exam ended up being one of the best decisions I made,” she remarked.
Through her struggles, Pratt learned that setbacks could lead to valuable life lessons, reinforcing her belief in the principle of divine timing. “Rejection can be redirection, and delay can be preparation,” she stated. This perspective fostered not only her perseverance but allowed her to support other aspiring lawyers by founding a scholarship for fellow bar exam retakers. Witnessing their successes reignited her own aspirations.
It was during this phase that Pratt refined her exam techniques, particularly for the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE). Recognising that prior approaches had stifled her performance, she shifted strategies, focusing on quality over quantity in her practice questions. “For the first time, I wasn’t just hoping I knew the law; I knew I had put in the kind of preparation that made me feel truly ready,” she reflected.
Ultimately, Pratt’s determination culminated in success on her fifth attempt when she learned she had passed the bar exam. Capturing the moment on video, she shared the joy and relief of her achievement with loved ones. This milestone not only represents personal victory but also inspires others facing similar challenges, as Pratt has become a beacon of hope for many navigating academic setbacks.
In her messages to those who may be struggling, Pratt emphasises the importance of resilience and self-belief. “You are not behind. You are not disqualified. You are still in the fight,” she encourages. Her story serves as an inspiring reminder that perseverance can lead to fulfilling one’s dreams, no matter how long the road may be.
