A 33-year-old woman from West Virginia has received two life sentences for the brutal murder of her four-year-old daughter, Haley Rebakah Weikle. On April 30, Rebakah Weikle pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. The tragic incident occurred on the night of July 11, 2022, or in the early hours of July 12, at their home in the Forest Hill area.

The harrowing details surrounding the case reveal a disturbing sequence of events initiated by Weikle’s extreme jealousy towards her husband. Prosecutors contended that prior to the incident, she had been conducting various online searches related to harming others. Summers County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Lefler highlighted these searches, which began in mid-to-late June, as critical evidence. They revealed a foreboding interest in topics such as lacerations and stab wounds—specifically targeting the throat.

Haley’s father, Rusty Weikle, provided a heartbreaking account, describing his wife’s jealousy that stemmed from his attentiveness to their daughter. Rusty expressed profound sorrow, stating, “She killed a four-year-old baby, my baby,” during an emotional interview. He remarked that he believed he was acting as a protective parent, while Weikle’s actions were rooted in a growing animosity.
On the night of the tragic event, while Rusty and the couple’s two sons were asleep, Rebakah and Haley remained awake. According to Lefler, Rebakah instructed Haley to go to bed before making the chilling decision to retrieve a kitchen knife. Accounts suggest that she muffled Haley’s cries using a pillow or blanket to avoid alerting her husband. The nature of the inflicted wound proved fatal almost immediately, meaning the child did not suffer long before passing.
Post-murder, Weikle attempted to conceal her crime by washing the knife, hiding her clothing, and misleading her husband into believing Haley was merely asleep. After disrobing, she reportedly engaged in sexual activity with Rusty before staying active on her phone throughout the night. Alarmingly, further searches regarding throat cutting and fingerprints occurred around 5am, suggesting a calculated effort to cover her tracks.
The following morning brought forth a panic-stricken scene. When Rusty asked Rebakah to wake Haley, she coldly informed him, “Haley’s dead.” Upon finding their daughter’s lifeless body, he immediately contacted emergency services. Initially, both parents faced murder charges, but Rusty’s accusations were ultimately dismissed when it became clear he had no involvement in Hayden’s death.
While Rusty Weikle eventually pleaded guilty to child neglect resulting in death and two counts of child neglect creating substantial risk of injury, his release from criminal culpability underscored the tragedy of the situation. Lefler asserted that Rusty’s initial account of events remained consistent and factual, contrasting sharply with Rebakah’s heinous actions.
In the aftermath of these events, Haley’s two brothers have been relocated to live with relatives out of state for their protection and wellbeing. The case has garnered significant media attention, highlighting not only the loss of a young life but also the ripple effects on a family subjugated by such profound tragedy.
As the story unfolds, it serves as a chilling reminder of the depths of human jealousy and the destructive potential of unchecked emotions. The community continues to grapple with the implications of this heart-wrenching case, mourning for a bright young life lost to senseless violence.
