In a milestone for both sports entertainment and women’s representation, Chloe Holladay has emerged as the first majorette to grace the sidelines of an NFL game since 2002. The Alabama native joined the Tennessee Titans in 2025, revitalising a role that had been dormant for over twenty years following the disbandment of the Detroit Lions’ majorette team.

The absence of majorettes in American football has marked a significant change in the landscape of sideline performances. The Lions discontinued their majorette squad shortly after a game at the Pontiac Silverdome, coincidentally the same year Chloe was born. For Holladay, twirling has been a significant part of her life since she started at just four years old in her hometown of Hartselle, Alabama, where majorette teams remain a cherished tradition.

Inspired by the Crimsonettes, the University of Alabama’s celebrated majorette line, Holladay nurtured ambitions of twirling in college. Upon enrolling at the University of Alabama in 2020, she successfully auditioned for the prestigious team while balancing the demanding coursework of nursing school and building a large following on social media. Currently, she boasts over one million followers on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, turning her content creation into a full-time career.
The pressures of juggling multiple commitments did not deter Holladay. “It felt like three full-time jobs at once, but it was incredibly rewarding,” she remarked. After her graduation, she faced a pivotal decision between pursuing nursing or dedicating herself to her social media career. Ultimately, after moving to Nashville with her fiancé, Kulyn Hubbard, she leaned more towards the realm of social media and entrepreneurship, launching her clothing brand, Exxtra by Chloe.
However, a dream continued to linger in Holladay’s mind. “I thought, why not aim for the NFL?” she told PEOPLE. This ambition was spurred by a sense of possibility in a role that had been vacant for decades. Without specific job postings to guide her, she took the initiative to craft emails to various individuals within the Titans’ organisation, outlining her vision of performing alongside their Blue Crew Drumline.
Holladay’s determination led her to attend multiple Titans games, meticulously studying the drumline’s performances and choreographing potential routines. Recognising the business aspect of the NFL, she aimed to present a comprehensive proposal that would justify her presence as a majorette on the field. After securing a meeting with the Titans’ head of entertainment, she prepared a PowerPoint presentation to showcase her vision.
Pitching her idea was nerve-wracking, given the unprecedented nature of her proposal. “There’s no blueprint for something like this. The worst they could say was no,” she noted, reflecting on her thoughts during the meeting. Her persistence paid off when, a few months later, she received the call confirming her position with the Titans, marking her as the league’s first majorette in over twenty years.
However, this achievement only marked the first chapter of her journey. As the sole majorette within the NFL, Holladay faced the dual tasks of developing her choreography and integrating her routines with the existing performances of the Blue Crew. Instead of merely acting as a feature twirler, she has collaborated closely with the drumline, ensuring her contributions resonate with their musical arrangements.
Training to meet the expectations of this high-profile role requires considerable commitment. Holladay dedicates time each week for practice sessions with the drumline, often embracing a rigorous fitness regime to maintain her physical conditioning. She emphasised her desire to present her best self, stating, “I want to look and feel my very best, especially during the season.”
Holladay’s journey transcends personal ambition; she views her role as a significant step for women in sports, particularly in areas previously devoid of female representation. “This is about breaking barriers within the NFL. It’s a role that hasn’t existed, and now it does,” she remarked, noting the positive reception from fans and aspiring young performers.
The encouragement she has received resonates deeply with her own experiences as a child admiring established performers. Her hope is that younger girls will see her role as an affirmation of their potential: “There are countless paths they can take, even if it seems like there are no options available,” she asserted.
As Chloe Holladay continues her journey with the Tennessee Titans, she embodies the spirit of ambition and innovation. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that with determination and creativity, barriers can indeed be broken, creating new opportunities for future generations of performers.
