The 45-year-old reality star took to Instagram shortly after the news emerged on April 22, describing herself as “at a loss for words” to express her grief. She highlighted the emotional toll this event has taken not only on her but also on Sheets’ family, specifically mentioning their shared loved ones: his son Brandon, and his granddaughter Zoe. Passante reminisced about their long-standing friendship, saying, “I’ve known Darrell Sheets for many years,” underscoring the depth of their connection.

In a poignant moment, Passante reflected on her own experiences with loss, sharing that she too has faced family tragedies, having lost both a parent and a brother to similar circumstances. This personal revelation prompted her to urge fans and followers to seek help if they are experiencing feelings of hopelessness or despair. She reassured them that support is available and emphasised the importance of reaching out instead of suffering in silence.

Passante’s message was not only a tribute to Sheets but also a vital reminder about mental health awareness. She stated, “If you are struggling, if you feel hopeless or like no one cares. I assure you they do!! You are not alone.” Along with her post, she provided contact information for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, encouraging those in distress to reach for assistance: “You can dial 988 on your phone to connect with a counselor and resources.”
Alongside her heartfelt message, Passante shared a collection of nostalgic images featuring her and Sheets, capturing moments from their time together on set and during public appearances. One of the touching snapshots showed the two smiling and sharing a moment of camaraderie, a testament to their friendship.
René Nezhoda, another “Storage Wars” cast member, also expressed condolences following Sheets’ passing. In an emotional video, Nezhoda revealed that although their on-screen rivalry was often heated, their real-life relationship was one of friendship. He stressed the importance of understanding that television personas do not always reflect personal realities, stating, “Just because you watch us on television, doesn’t mean you know us.”
Nezhoda described Sheets as a dedicated individual, emphasising his commitment to family and his passion for work. He also spoke out against the cyberbullying that Sheets had allegedly faced, highlighting the detrimental effects of online harassment. “It doesn’t entitle you to bully somebody,” he asserted, reflecting on the negative impact of social media on mental health.
Authorities confirmed that Lake Havasu City police responded to a report of a deceased individual around 2 a.m. on April 22. Upon arrival, they identified Sheets and confirmed that he had tragically passed away at the scene. Sheets had become well-known as “The Gambler” due to his high-stakes bidding style on “Storage Wars,” often accompanied by his son, which endeared him to many fans.
Following his time on the show, Sheets stepped back from filming in 2023 and pursued a new venture by opening an antique shop in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, named Havasu Show Me Your Junk. The store represented a new chapter for Sheets after his years in the spotlight.
A spokesperson for A&E, the network behind “Storage Wars,” conveyed the network’s grief over Sheets’ untimely demise, stating, “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Brandi Passante’s heartfelt message and calls for support come as a crucial reminder to all who struggle with mental health issues. For anyone in need, the message remains clear: there is always help available, and individuals are encouraged to utilise the resources provided, such as the 988 crisis hotline, for support during their most challenging moments.
