Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film, *The Odyssey*, has been described by the renowned director as an “absolute nightmare to film.” Speaking at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas on 15 April, Nolan shared insights into the challenges faced during production while simultaneously expressing excitement for the film’s release.

Starring Matt Damon in the leading role, *The Odyssey* depicts the legendary journey of the Greek hero Odysseus as he strives to return to his home on the island of Ithaca following his involvement in the Trojan War. Nolan said he views Damon, who also had a notable role in Nolan’s 2023 film, *Oppenheimer*, as “my partner on this journey.”
“This film has been an absolute nightmare to film,” acknowledged Nolan, now 55. He further explained, however, that the difficulties encountered were ultimately a positive aspect of the filmmaking process. “We had an amazing time doing it,” he added, indicating that the arduous journey contributed to the film’s authenticity.
