A 16-year-old student from Jersey Shore High School in Pennsylvania has been celebrated for her quick thinking and bravery in saving her grandfather’s life during a medical emergency. Layla Melodie took decisive action when her grandfather, Kenneth Leitch, suffered a cardiac arrest on April 1. Her heroic efforts drew praise from local officials and community members alike.
The incident unfolded when Leitch, who has dedicated nearly 50 years to serving as assistant chief of the Avis Volunteer Fire Company, collapsed unexpectedly. The recognition event was emotional for Layla, who expressed her feelings through tears as she received a proclamation from the commissioners, along with a CPR Save pin for her bravery.
