Anna Ames, a mother from Idaho, has recently gained attention online for her poignant and inspiring story of motherhood following a difficult journey marked by infertility and heartbreaking pregnancy loss. Through her Instagram account, @reality.or.an.ivf.family, Anna has documented every step of her experience in the hopes of connecting with others who face similar struggles.

Anna and her husband, Jacob, began trying to conceive shortly after their wedding, but after two years of unsuccessful attempts, they sought medical advice. Anna was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis—conditions that often lead to infertility. The couple initially pursued intrauterine insemination, but after two failed attempts, they made the decision to progress to in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
Reflecting on their journey, Anna recounted, “Our first egg retrieval yielded nine embryos, but many were not viable.” Subsequent attempts yielded unfortunate results as well, with heartbreaking losses following their transfers. Yet, hope remained when Anna became pregnant with twins, Taylor and Riley, after a successful embryo transfer. However, their joy turned to sorrow when Anna experienced preterm labour due to an incompetent cervix.
In January 2024, Anna gave birth to Taylor, but the baby’s life was tragically short, lasting only 27 minutes. One week later, she went into labour again, this time with Riley. Sadly, Riley was also stillborn due to the complications arising from the pregnancy. The couple faced the devastating loss of their daughters and was presented with the choice of whether to try to conceive again.
Despite their grief, Anna and Jacob wanted to pursue parenthood once more and quickly began the process again. Anna started the Instagram account to express her feelings about their losses, which became a supportive community for others going through similar experiences.
Following two more unsuccessful embryo transfers, the couple decided to do another egg retrieval, resulting in 13 viable embryos. In February of this year, they had their eighth embryo transfer, which ultimately led to a positive pregnancy test for their son, Logan.
Anna’s pregnancy with Logan was not without its challenges. After a routine examination, it became apparent that she was at risk of early labour again. Once again, she was placed on strict bed rest and monitored closely. Despite the challenges, Anna and Jacob remained hopeful, eager to give their son the best chance at survival.
At just 22 weeks, Anna’s waters broke, and doctors had to perform an emergency C-section to deliver Logan. Born weighing only 1 lb. and 4 oz., he faced significant challenges from the start, with his tiny size posing numerous risks.
“We cherished every moment we had with him,” Anna shared. “After losing our twins, we understood that capturing memories, even in the toughest moments, could be helpful later on. We made sure to take lots of photos and videos of Logan.”
Logan spent 169 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before he was able to come home with his parents. During this time, Anna continued to document his progress on social media, sharing milestones and moments of joy as they navigated this delicate journey together.
Now, at nine months old, Logan is thriving, and Anna has shifted her focus in documenting his life. “I still love capturing fun photos of him whenever I can. It’s not just about preserving memories; it’s for him to look back on when he’s older,” she explained.
With the ups and downs of parenthood, Anna and Jacob find joy in their life with Logan. “We are incredibly busy, and things can be stressful at times, but we’re so grateful for our miracle baby boy!” she said, sharing a sentiment that resonates deeply with parents navigating their own unique journeys.
Anna’s story serves as a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the deep bond of family, showcasing how shared experiences can help others find solace and strength in their own paths to parenthood.
