Olivia Munn has recently opened up about the joy family life brings her in a candid interview, reflecting on her experiences with husband John Mulaney and their two children. During a press event for her latest project “Your Friends & Neighbours,” Munn described an ideal family day where the couple and their kids enjoyed simple yet meaningful activities.
The actress, aged 45, reminisced about a recent day spent at home, where she, Mulaney, and their children embraced the beauty of family time. “John and I, along with our two kids, spent the day hanging out at the house and in the yard, even going to the beach,” she recounted. Munn expressed how vital it is for their children to experience both parents together, navigating the daily chaos of family life and shared responsibilities.

Munn emphasised the heartfelt moments that bring her the most happiness, particularly those spent outdoors. She recounted a memory of playing with a traditional sprinkler, which sparkled with joy and reminded her of her own childhood. “We put it on the grass, and that provided us with hours of simple playtime,” she said. For Munn, it was these modest yet joyous activities that made the day truly special.
The couple’s journey together began back in June 2021. Just months later, they welcomed their son Malcolm Hiệp into the world. Now, Munn shared that they tied the knot in July 2024 in a small ceremony officiated by actor Sam Waterston in New York. She noted that at the time of her first pregnancy, she and Mulaney barely knew each other, and their relationship evolved rapidly as they became parents together.
However, their life took a serious turn when Munn revealed her battle with breast cancer in March 2024. Diagnosed with luminal B cancer – a particularly aggressive form – she faced a harrowing journey that involved five surgeries, including a double mastectomy. Munn reflected on the importance of Mulaney’s support throughout this difficult ordeal. She remarked that enduring treatment without his presence would have been nearly insurmountable.
“John stepped up remarkably as a hands-on father,” Munn said, detailing how he balanced caring for their son Malcolm while also being there for her through hospital visits and surgery recoveries. Despite the challenges, Munn highlighted Mulaney’s dedication, sharing how he managed to stay positive and engaged in parenting amidst a trying time.
Yet, the struggle wasn’t just physical for Munn. She recounted an emotional moment shortly after her surgery when Malcolm wanted to be picked up. “I could only squat to hug him, which was incredibly difficult,” she explained. “All you want is to hold your baby.” These poignant memories underscored the heart-wrenching challenges she faced while navigating motherhood during her health crisis.
In September 2024, the couple welcomed their second child, a daughter named Méi June, via gestational surrogate. This new addition to the family has brought further joy to their lives, reinforcing the importance of family support through life’s ups and downs.
Despite her ongoing battle with cancer, Munn feels optimistic about her health and current projects. She stars alongside Jon Hamm in the Apple TV+ series “Your Friends & Neighbours,” which delves into the complexities of human relationships amidst darkly comedic circumstances. Munn spoke about her affinity for the show’s writing, which intricately weaves stories together, making her excited to portray a character rife with conflicting emotions.
As the new season of “Your Friends & Neighbours” premiered on April 3, Munn expressed her enjoyment of the character’s multifaceted nature, revealing how the storyline resonated with her on various personal levels. With new episodes streaming on Apple TV+, she encourages fans to tune in and witness the engaging narrative unfold.
Through family commitments and her artistic endeavours, Olivia Munn continues to embody resilience and joy, demonstrating the powerful impact of love and support amid life’s challenges.
