A 70-year-old grandmother from California has undergone a significant transformation, opting for multiple cosmetic surgeries following a life-altering medical event. Mae, who prefers to keep a low profile about her life, tells of how a health scare prompted her to reassess her wellbeing and eventually embrace plastic surgery.

Mae’s journey began in early 2023 when she suffered a critical bilateral pulmonary embolism. This serious health incident served as a wake-up call, leading her to adopt a healthier lifestyle, which included changes to her diet and an increase in physical activity. The results were striking: she managed to shed over 50 pounds, but the weight loss also led to unexpected changes in her appearance that she found difficult to accept—her skin seemed to sag, and she noticed that her face appeared “just skin”.

Previously, Mae had been content with her natural aging signs, including her grey hair, and had never contemplated cosmetic enhancements. However, the profound changes following her weight loss compelled her to explore surgical options at the age of 69. Armed with determination, she sought guidance through various online platforms, particularly YouTube, and consulted three different surgeons before ultimately choosing Dr. Carl Truesdale, a renowned plastic surgeon based in Beverly Hills.

The extensive surgeries that followed were transformative in more ways than one. Mae’s procedures included a deep plane neck lift, facelift, lip lift, upper and lower blepharoplasty, an endoscopic eyebrow lift, fat transfer, and CO2 laser resurfacing. The combined effects of these surgeries reportedly took off 30 years from her appearance, and Mae herself describes the experience as both enlightening and shocking.
Adjusting to her new look has been a gradual process for Mae. She experienced unfamiliar sensations post-surgery, including numbness in her head and ears, and even had to retrain herself to smile due to the changes made to her facial structure. Mae likens her recovery to that of childbirth, noting the numerous stages of healing and reflection it requires, leading her to question when she would fully feel like herself again.
Despite her newfound status on social media and the buzz surrounding her transformation, Mae has only shared her journey with close family and one friend. She expressed concerns about potential judgment, which led her to keep her surgery mostly private. Nonetheless, her transformation has not gone unnoticed; friends and acquaintances have remarked on her revitalised appearance, with some even expressing a desire to emulate her results.
Mae now feels empowered by her surgery and the steps she has taken to enhance her wellbeing. She recalls how she once worried about her appearance, particularly her “turtle neck,” but now drives with confidence, holding her head high. The changes have not only improved her physical appearance but have reinvigorated her spirit, pushing her to return to activities she loves, such as yoga and spending precious time with her grandchildren.
Looking ahead, Mae remains open to the idea of pursuing further cosmetic enhancements, such as a “mummy makeover,” which typically involves breast augmentation and a tummy tuck. While she is uncertain how her body would respond to more surgery, she hopes that any future enhancements will reflect her inner vitality.
As Mae continues her wellness journey, she is delighted to have reached a weight of 107 pounds, reinforcing her sense of strength and health. As she revels in her new look, Mae’s experience resonates deeply with the concept of reclaiming one’s identity, ultimately leading her to feel that her external appearance is now more aligned with her inner self.
