Renowned pastry chef and Food Network star Duff Goldman has joyfully announced the arrival of his second child with wife Johanna. The couple welcomed their son, Samurai Jack, on March 31, 2026, adding a new member to their family, which also includes their five-year-old daughter, Josephine. Goldman expressed his elation in an interview with PEOPLE, declaring, “I am literally the happiest I’ve ever been in my entire life at this moment.” The newborn tipped the scales at a healthy 7 lbs., 5 oz.

Goldman, who tied the knot with Johanna in 2019, is keen on the experience of raising a son. “I think that I’m most excited about… getting a shot at just raising a real good little man,” he enthused about his first son. Josephine, their daughter, is equally thrilled about her new role as an older sister. Goldman revealed that she had been actively preparing for the arrival of her brother by making piles of stuffed toys to share and drawing pictures to decorate his room.
The transition to siblinghood has had its moments. According to Goldman, when Josephine first met her brother, she was a little apprehensive. “It was amazing for me to see her face when she was confronted with a real little person that was the size of one of her dolls,” he said. Once she observed Sam cuddling with one of her plush toys, her initial hesitance melted away, leading her to plant a big kiss on his forehead.
Goldman described Josephine as a “strong-willed, opinionated, confident young lady,” highlighting her vibrant personality and strong presence within their household. “She runs the house, man,” he chuckled, comparing her to Louise from the animated series *Bob’s Burgers*, which holds a special significance for the family.
In an amusing turn, Bowman shared that the beloved show played an important role during the birth of his son. “The hospital doesn’t have a lot of options for TV, but *Bob’s Burgers* was on,” he explained. The Goldmans often watch the show as a family during winding down time before bed, making it a fitting accompaniment to Samurai Jack’s arrival. “He was born to an episode of *Bob’s Burgers*,” Goldman revealed, recalling the specific episode that happened to be playing.
Contrary to what some may believe, the baby’s name was not inspired by the television character Samurai Jack. Goldman clarified, “We didn’t name our son after Samurai Jack, the cartoon,” while sharing that the name has personal roots. He reminisced about a cool childhood friend named Sam, who was a talented skater and surfer. This fond memory prompted Goldman to decide that his son would bear the name Sam, with Samurai serving as a unique twist.
Goldman announced Johanna’s pregnancy through a heart-warming Instagram post on November 27, featuring a photo of him placing a hand on her belly. “Oh boy! @johnnapgoldman has another bun in the oven! I think Josephine is going to be the best big sister ever,” he wrote. Johanna also shared her excitement, saying she felt “extra grateful for my healthy, happy, growing family.”
The couple frequently shares adorable moments from their lives as a family on social media. These have included Josephine donning a delightful Halloween costume crafted by her father and the family caring for a group of ducklings. Notably, Goldman has a penchant for baking creative treats for his daughter, having made her a “brain cake” for her fourth birthday, as well as intricately decorated cookies for her preschool class.
