Their love story began in 1948 at a Florida Navy flight school, where Bill was captivated by a photograph of Charlotte, which he spotted on his friend’s dresser. Initially believing the picture depicted his friend’s girlfriend, Bill soon discovered that it was actually the photo of his friend’s younger sister. “As soon as I saw that picture on his desk, it was immediate. I knew I was going to try to marry that girl,” he recounts, expressing the immediate connection he felt.
The couple had their first encounter when Charlotte visited a few weeks later.
