However, his condition began to deteriorate as he was weaned onto whole fish and started experiencing digestive problems. Despite the tireless efforts of the aquarium’s staff, Chappy’s gastrointestinal issues proved too severe to overcome, ultimately leading to his untimely passing. A subsequent necropsy revealed that Chappy had complications with his intestines, which were entangled in his mesentery, complicating his digestive system and cutting off blood supply to vital areas. Additionally, traces of plastic were discovered in Chappy’s stomach, underlining the ongoing threat that marine debris, particularly plastics, poses to sea creatures.
