Levesque, eager to witness this new development in the show, quipped, “I am definitely going to try to sneak in, use my old badge. I don’t care. You know I need to see some real hot girl s— going on.”
During her time in the spotlight, Levesque disclosed that Moulin Rouge! feels refreshed with each new cast. She remarked, “It’s like a new show with every rotation of characters and changes in the company,” and expressed her anticipation for Megan’s unique interpretation of the role. Levesque firmly believes that the introduction of a female Zidler was long overdue, stating, “I think it’s about time that there’s been a female Zidler, so this is going to be incredible.”
Having seen Moulin Rouge! multiple times, Levesque noted her fondness for the production, as she watched friends join the cast in various capacities. “It’s definitely my most-watched show because I’ve seen so many friends come into it, whether as principals or in the ensemble. I’ve probably seen it over a dozen times in different iterations,” she added.
In addition to her excitement for the new Zidler, Levesque is gearing up for her own Broadway return this June in the role of Florence Vassy in the renowned musical Chess. In a candid statement, she described this upcoming opportunity as “incredible and exciting,” while emphasising the emotional impact it had on her when she first witnessed the production. “I couldn’t stop getting chills. It feels incredibly right, and it is definitely going to be a challenge, but something that I’m excited for,” she stated.
In her new role, Levesque will be sharing the stage with Aaron Tveit—her former co-star in Moulin Rouge!—who takes on the character of Freddie Trumper. She praised Tveit as an exceptional scene partner and a close friend, stating, “[Tveit] is such an amazing scene partner, so generous, and just such a wonderful friend offstage.” Joining them in the cast will be Nicholas Christopher as Anatoly Sergievsky, about whom Levesque expressed her astonishment at his vocal talents, noting, “When I heard him sing… it’s really something else. I think these are two of the best male voices I’ve heard live, maybe ever.”
Levesque fondly reminisced about her experience with Moulin Rouge! and the warm reception she received from both her castmates and the broader New York theatre community. “I can’t think of a better first-time experience than the company of Moulin Rouge! and the support that I felt,” she reflected, cherishing the embrace of the Broadway community during her early career.
